Comic summary
The 3 not-so-princesses tells the tale of Peach, Daisy and Rosalina of the Super Mario franchise, with the notable exception that they live in the alternative universe of Rothingham, a dystopian and seemingly endless city. Stripped of their royalty, how will these alternative versions of our lovely princesses deal with the harsh reality of a city that doesn't give a crap about them?

Inspired by The 3 little princesses by Yves =TheBourgyman Bourgelas.

Page notes
This page was my first endeavor on Livestream, as I gave the people of the Inter-tubes a chance to take a look behind the scenes of The 3 not-so-princesses, complete with my exotic Dutch accent, crunching of potato chips and silly comedy podcasts.

And so the premise for the story has solidified and we're ready to head into the next arc. It shouldn't take much brain power to figure out who we're gonna see next, and I suppose some of you are really looking forward to it.

Next page will be Livestreamed, but I'll only do one session and it's on Sunday. Livestream is quite distracting and I think it'll be more interesting if the page is about halfway done. I'll post the announcements on Twitter and I'll update my journal when I'm actually broadcasting.

PS: Do you guys think the language in this page really warrants a mature label?

I love all the little details in this comic that are references and such; it makes it interesting to go back and look at after I read it. & I've somehow only found this 4 years after you created it. xD

First thing I laughed at was Rosalina's face in the first panel! XD That must have been fun to draw! And poor blanket: all it wanted to be was snuggled endlessly, and now it's charred. :c Bless you, shortlived throw blanket. Bless you.

And I don't know what was up with me and Peach's face in panel two, but it made me jump, for some reason! And that's always the greeting used to butter someone up: 'Hey, Fatsooo' with three 'o's! XD

Even adding a single frown line will make a woman look weird, especially in the deformed style of this comic :]

I don't know why, since I've seen... 'older women' with several frown lines above their eyes. Oh wait: they usually are around their upper 70's... okay, I've figured out why they look so weird now! They aren't accompanied by liver spots! XD And the deformed style is very refreshing: usually I either see artists render the Mario universe in realism (as in the Koopas are turtles and Goombas look creepy as heck) or anime style.

Anime style is interesting when it's never done on a franchise, but its incredibly lazy when such renditions are already abundant.

How do they wish to stand out if they're doing exactly that which makes them blend in with the rest of the search results.

I think the language adds to the hilarity. I freaking love this, if it were a TV show I wouldn't miss one episode. This is legendary, please keep going. I can't wAit to see the next one!

TheArtrix In reply to ShadowQueenServer1 [2010-05-05 17:56:10 +0000 UTC]

While hilarious, the language is also intended to make the characters more real. People say nasty shit all the time, and I want to reflect this, rather than hide it under a blanket of political correctness. In fact, it's the tendency of Western governments to nanny-state their citizens that I criticize in this comic.

True. So true. Psh, the gov. hides everything from us. I hate the government and can not, for the life o' me, trust those bastards.

So uh, page 8 is not finished yet? *flinches and waits for head to get bit off*

TheArtrix In reply to ShadowQueenServer1 [2010-05-06 13:35:27 +0000 UTC]

Even though a healthy dose of skepticism towards the government never hurts, I don't think governments are inherently bad. Governments offer services and regulation that would be near impossible in an anarchistic society. My criticism is more aimed at governments growing too big and interfering with issues that are on a very personal level, such as the daily health choices we make, how to interact with others and how to spend our money. Governments seem to no longer represent the idea that people are capable of running their own lives, although I may exaggerate a bit.

You'll be surprised to find out that page 8's been online for about two days now :]

The floating cigarette was something I started to notice as well. Although it's mostly cartoon physics at play, in some panels it really seems to float, rather than just stick in place as Daisy talks.

This comic is such an stark contrast from Bourgyman's "The 3 Little Princesses".

I'm not at liberty to choose favorites but I will say that I'm glad that you went with the polar extreme in this case.

That's pretty much what I was going for. Now that the comic is starting to gain mass, it's fun to compare the thumbnails of T3NSP and T3LP and see this contrast between grey, grim pages and these really bright and colorful ones.

Aww, Rosalina's so cute

I love how you're developing the characters, their personalities are really evident and I can really see all that preparation you were doing start to come into play. Like, even their body language shows alot about their personalities. You're one heck of a comic artist

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TheArtrix In reply to museforsale [2010-05-05 17:42:53 +0000 UTC]

Didn't realize that their body language tells so much about them. I suppose that's evident after over 15 years of comic making.

In terms of preparation and concept, this is probably my most solid comic to date, and I'm glad it really shows. I recently read a comic I did in the early 2000s, an it was essentially Independence Day told with various cartoon characters. Really, it sounds better than it is.

Oh I dunno. When growing up my parents didn't like it when I said "hell," so some might be offended by it. Then again, those who are easily offened by this stuff usually arn't on dA.

TheArtrix In reply to TheSUNGlassKid [2010-05-05 17:38:06 +0000 UTC]

Some people even go as far as to refer to God as "G-d", so I definitely understand where the sensitivity comes from.

But yea, when I look around on this site, the language on this page, and even the whole comic is still pretty tame. But I do keep the audience of #Nintendo-Girls in mind.
