Apologies for the delay, I've been sick these past few weeks but now that I'm on the mend I've managed to pen a few more pages. I figured I'd post this one a little early since it's been so long.Now herein this page lies the beginning of the Mystery Kids quest, but unfortunately for them there are two opposing views as expressed by Coraline and Norman. One who seeks to destroy the Beldam and one who doesn't.

If I assume correctly the eyes mentioned are the BeldamΒ΄s version of the ghost children eyes, which presumes that she was indeed a mortal woman at some point, even if not a normal human. If we take AgathaΒ΄s as an example...

Well you know what they say, "The eyes are the window to the soul". I always took it that the "eyes" simply represented a piece of their soul that had been taken which ultimately anchored them in her world.
Going by the book, the Beldam mentioned that she had a "Mother" and that she buried her herself. I believe she also said "And when she climbed back out, I put her back in" or something of that ilk. This could imply that she was in fact human at some point in her existence.
I always just take the buttons as a symbol of the soul having been taken. Since it's the Beldam that does this, one can infer that she must have done this to herself. The question is, why?

I agree with those. Besides many legends or stories refer as witches or sorceress as mortal humans at one point or another. Some willingly become that way while with others is the result of a curse or spell. And as for why she did to herself, well I have a theory but I will not say it to avoid potential spoilers. Who knows if I am right? But still if I can refer an example in Danny Phantom the titular character did want to take a way a part of himself when tragedy stroke him, and we know WHAT it created, in his case his ULTIMATE ENEMY! So yeah, it may have to be a tragic event that created the event, loss perhaps?
