Man, episode 10 was a doosey. I was gone one day and the Avatar world turned upside-down on me...
Anyways, once again I find myself drawing Toph and Lin together. It makes me feel better.
I'm sure that after the way Toph's parents raised her, she didn't want to abandon Lin. And there had to be times where she couldn't find anyone to watch her while she went in to work, or that someone brought Lin to her while she was working because Lin only wanted her, which is what I drew here.
So even with a pile of work to be done, Toph would be there for her daughter. She's sitting on her desk at work, rocking and humming little baby Lin to sleep.
They'll both always be my favorite characters.

I abosoluty love this piece of art! This piece is so emotional and heart-warming as soon as you just look at it! Toph was a great mother to Lin, and I definatly agree that she would be there for little Lin. The scene fits well, with Toph sitting on her desk, in her uniform, craddling Lin while there's a bunch of papers in the to do box.

So beautiful! I love the idea of Toph being this loving mother. I mean, what you say about Toph raising Lin makes sense. A good mother always makes time to her children. And Toph is no exception. I wish all mothers are like this. Toph may be busy, but in this picture at least she always makes time for Lin. But it does make me wonder how Lin became as tough, if not tougher, than her mother. Maybe if and when Lin becomes a mother herself, she'll be like this with her own children. Anyway, I don't think everybody pictured Toph as this mother figure, which makes this picture even more amazing!

I think as she got older she was able to help Toph with her paperwork, that's probably how she went on to be Chief herself after Toph....
