First of all I think it is lovely you created art for your friend. Art is always a great way to make someone smile. Especially on your birthday. It makes the special day even more special.
Thats enough of my blabbering;
This is very cute, I love the way you have done the fur. The colours and reflection is lovely. The light is amazing especially the shading.
I admire your drawing style. The antimony is brillent.
You have finished this off perfectly. I always struggle with backgrounds, but yours is so detailed and yet not overwhelming as the dog is still the center of attention.

The ears are uneven and one is particularly crooked, the head is too large and isn't centered on the neck, the tongue is an unnatural shape, the legs are much too thin, and the poor dog is anorexic.
Your "critique" wasn't really a critique at all. Everything could use a lot of work, yet you've made it out to be some sort of masterpiece.
That's not doing any good for the artist.
