The Tragic Loss of a Cookie

Softer than the plushest pillow
And sweeter than the most romantic night,
Cookies fill a void with joy and sugary might.
Teeth sink in so gently, savoring in saccharine delight.

But all too soon the pleasure is gone
And remorse fills a troubled heart.
Why must this small indulgence disappear
Just as the taste buds begin to cheer?

Oh bitter sorrow, so sharply contrasting
The former profound ecstasy with which the cookie brings!
Why must it plague the cookie-eaters
Like flies after a feast?

Each gooey chocolate chip is missed
And every piece of velvety dough is never to be forgotten.
The sprinkles that used to adorn my dearest cookie
Now only grace my memories as a rainbow myriad of tastiness.

Oh cookie! You are sorely missed.
You'll never be forgotten, I'll never eat another coo--
Oh really? That cookie is for me?
Why, thank you!

... Alas! All too soon my cookie is gone
And with it takes the taste of sweeter days
And more honeyed nights.
Oh cookie, you shall be sorely missed.
