Story time: 400 words
After they completed the roof climb, Sam saw the upcoming obstacle which was called the "mini cliff”. He took a deep calming breath and directed Pirate towards the direction of the cliff. So far they had completed all the jumps more or less successfully. Pirate was getting a bit tired and so was Sam. However they needed to complete this race, the stable’s honor counted on them completing this. Sam slowed Pirate down to a walk and they stopped at the very top of this mini cliff. Although it was a “mini” cliff, it was still quite big. It looked like it was about a seven foot drop and had a mud base.

“We can do this.” Sam said to Pirate (although it was mostly for Sam’s benefit). Then he urged Pirate to start heading down. Pirate peered over the edge and then nicked softly as if to say "you want me to go down that?? Okayyy o.o" and then they started sliding down.

"Ok Pirate, good job so far, nice and eas-" Sam was saying to Pirate as they began sliding down, but the rest of his sentence got cut off about a third of the way. This was when Pirate suddenly decided that he didn't like sliding anymore and it would be way better to just jump down the rest of the way. Pirate dug his back legs into the mud wall and launched himself out and away. Sam on the other hand, didn’t get the memo since he was caught off guard by the sudden change of pace/direction and lost his stirrup. The impact of the landing nearly threw Sam off, but he grabbed Pirate's mane and hung on with his legs. Pirate catapulted himself forward, his legs digging through the mud. Then the realization came to Pirate that Sam was not in the right place in the saddle and he slowed down to a comfortable pace. This enabled Sam to regain himself, his pride, and his stirrup. Sam looked down over at Pirate with a frown and Pirate tilted his head to look at Sam out of the corner of his eye and gave his best “..oops?” face. Sam chuckled to himself and they continued onwards, towards the next obstacle.
