Fox hunt entry: Lagging the Seasons
Unfortunately, I been feeling out of touch with my art lately. Mainly due to lack of practice. I'm not that happy that it took me about 8 hours to do this but I'm pretty happy with the final result (taking my struggles into consideration). I struggled with a lot... the trees, the grass, realistic expression in a comic based style, figuring out skin tones, and all that took awhile. I'm also working on individualizing my horses - focusing more on their individual characteristics and expressions. Avalanche's face/expression is pretty different from his ref but my style has changed since then so I don't really know how I feel about it. Basically, I learned a lot throughout the course of this drawing and it didn't come out too shabby.
But I'm loving this team!

Holy Shite! What an incredible picture! Love the format, to start with. So nice and non-standard, and it suits the piece so well!
The colours are amazing, and i love how painterly your background looks. For me it tells the story of where they've been for this cross country course. They've crossed mountains, moved through forrests, and now they're racing towards the finish through the water.
You've managed to create a distance between what has been, and what's happening now, in the way you drew them. I don't know if it makes much sense.. but I think it's because the duo really pops off of the background. I absolutely adore it!
Also, the expressions are GREAT! Both so determined, but so in control. I don't think Avelanche's expression is so much different. He still has the kind and soft eyes, but in this piece he is hard at work, and not roaming free in the meadows. So the moment is different, and understandably his expression is not the same. But he's still very recognisable!

Yeah I did try to make it so that you can see where they might have been! What I also spent some extra time doing was making sure the background didn't detract too much from the pair but also still being able to compliment it haha
