The focus is really great. I'd consider cropping it differently to alter the center composition, which can be boring. It's best if you can still get the sharp focus without the center composition on the original photo, which you can achieve with or without the bitchish auto focus, but it might be easier in the long run if you could master manual focus. You could also, for macro shots, lower your aperture to get a more shallow depth of field. I'm sure you'd noticed that in many nature macro shots, the environment behind the subject is usually a flat-looking green or whatever color, with some occasional bokeh. It brings more attention to the subject that way and creates a very pretty backdrop.

When you say crop it differently, like how? More square or more retangular?

And about the aperature, the lens was the kit lens, so it was 3.5-5.6. The other lens I have is a 18-200 3.5-6.3. But Im saving up for a 50 1.4 This guy I know who's a pro photographer. He's like "oh, you look like you need an L series 1.2 lens." Im like thats like 1000 dollars! Are you going to buy it for me? *Sigh* money money money. But I like what I have

I mean crop it one one side to change the composition. Right now, the dragonfly is positioned in the very center of the photo, which is a relatively boring composition (usually). Use the rule of thirds as a guide to figure out the best composition. ;3

I have the kit lens as well, same aperture. You have an 18-55mm, yes? So I definitely understand your situation.

Yes yes yes, rule of thirds. I've got you. I know these things, I just got to put them into practice.

Thanks so much And patience my friend, unwavering patience . But in seriousness, every species of every insect, living in each area has its "spot" where it likes to stay. You find the spot, before they come, and wait, and wait, and wait, they sit clip clip and your done. Zebra longwings like marigolds, anise swallowtails and downy emerald dragonflies prefer hibiscus, and so on...

Very good work. I have gone scavenging for drangonflies myslf, and I have not seen this specific type. The rarity of this fly and the clarity of the picture makes it great.
