Playa Real- Guanacaste, Costa Rica

The smell of salt and wet sand permeated the air near the harbor. Alone in the crisp morning breeze, a young girl sat nearby an immense sea vessel moored to the same dock which she rested upon. She dangled her long, skinny legs over the edge, allowing her bare toes to dip into the cool water as she swung them back and forth. The tide was beginning to ebb from the high tide mark, signifying the official beginning of the day. The young blonde girl continuously looked up, toward the main dirt road leading back to the town. Each time she saw nothing, she sighed and once more kicked up another small splash of water. Below her, the smaller fish took refuge between the stanchions of the dock, darting away from her interval of disturbances.

"Hannah, get your cabin sorted!" a deep Spanish accent interrupted her thoughts, "They'll get here when they get here."

She cast her sky blue eyes at the captain of The Feisty Crawdad, "It's only a 4 hour drive! What's taking them so long?" she huffed as she got to her feet and slowly sauntered back to the gangplank. She was nearly to the top of the ramp when she gave the roadway one last look. As the eastern sun crested over the hillside, the distinct shape of the Jeep's silhouette came with it. A big smile passed over Hannah's face and she ran down the dock to greet the oncoming vehicle. The Jeep stopped in the dirt lot and two figures emerged from it. The first one, Hannah knew from the day she was born. It was the second person, exiting the passenger side, that she was most excited to see.

"Oh my god!, Hannah?" Cassie exclaimed, incredulously, "Holy shit, look how big you've gotten."

Hannah grinned and ran into Cassie's arms, squeezing her tight, "I've missed you!"

Cassie looked at James, "Look at her..." she held Hannah out at arms length and inspected her, "She's all legs."

"Just about as tall as you now." he chuckled, "Not much longer, I'd say."

"Oh, my goodness. How old are you now? It's been, what... six years?" Cassie smiled.

Hannah nodded, "Almost seven. I'm fourteen now."

"Where does the time go?" Cassie sighed.

James returned the sigh, "Tell me about it." he looked at his daughter, "Hannah, honey, why don't you help Dr. Pierce load her gear onto the ship? Show her where her cabin is."

Hannah gave her father a nod and took Cassie by the hand, "C'mon, yours is next to mine."

As they strode away, Dr. Melbrook called out, "Hannah!"

"Yes, dad?!"

"When you're done showing her to her quarters, get your scrawny ass into yours and square it away!" he ordered.

Hannah sighed, "Yes, dad!"
