Superhero movies have become one of the most well known movies in recent years. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been making great superhero films for more than a decade and the DC Extended Universe seems to have finally found its footing with the Snyder Cut of Justice League. But before all that, Pixar released one of their best films: The Incredibles. And in 2018, they released a sequel, more than a decade later. And was it worth the wait? Well let's find out.

This movie's story is interesting, to say the least. Helen tries to advocate for superheroes in order to make them legal again, while Bob takes care of the kids when Jack Jack suddenly has powers. One complaint this film gets is how similar in structure the story is to the first one. And that is a problem. Someone does hero work while the other stays at home, and it turns out the hero's employer is the villain of the story. And while it's clear they took plot beats from the first film, I wouldn't call the story a rehash. For one, we get to see a lot more of the family life of the Parr family, as well as good superhero action with Elastigirl. The story still manages to be charming and funny, despite the repeats. And while it is weird and disappointing that after more than a decade, the story feels similar the first, the story itself more than makes up for it.

The animation in this film really shows how far Pixar has come with its animation. The original film still looks good, but this one looks incredible. Sure, some character models look a bit off, but other than that the animation is a definite improvement over the first. The colors in this film really pop, and the action scenes are really enjoyable. Excluding the stuff that caused seizures. I don't actually know if the digital release is the original, because I didn't watch it in theaters. But it seems to be toned down. Something else this film does well is the little details. Small things that don't mean anything, but really show that the people making this film cared.

However, let's discuss the big problem: the villain. Now I'm actually going to give the villain some points, having someone hypnotized into being the Screenslaver and getting arrested was a cool idea. And the concept of a hypnotist villain is cool. The problems were the twist. I'm debating  if I want to make a character review on Screenslaver or not. So I'll save this stuff for that, whenever I get around the making it. But to summarize: The problem with the twist is the character's motivation and convoluted plan. And it is far from Disney's worst twist villain. But is a definite downgrade from Syndrome. At least the twist wasn't done in the last 10 minutes, and there was some actual foreshadowing involved.

Minus some plot beat repeats and the twist involving the villain, Incredibles 2 is a fine sequel. While it definitely could've and should've been better. I'm not going to make an atrocity review just because the film didn't meet expectations. Because the film itself is still a fun superhero movie, with the charm and humor of the original. Should've it had more time in the oven? Yes. But I'd still call it a good movie. And I'd still recommend it to anyone interested.
