I asked my friend Multiplicity-of-Self to write a story for this painting I did a while ago!

"Fianxep was nearly one thousand years old, but on Kepyr, The Thin World, he was still considered an infant. Youth was a long-term endeavor on his world, just like physical movement, because the fourth dimension (time) barely touched that corner of the universe at all unless propelled by a bursting wormhole billions of light years away. Such events were few and far between however, and the race of Astral Dragons existed in a slow motion drift for much of their lives.

Kepyr was known as The Thin World precisely because all matter there was thin and brittle. If the planet were even a quarter of a million miles closer to the nearest star, solar winds would all but obliterate every organism within a matter of a few standard hours; blowing them away into clouds of dust. Plant life and the fleshy interiors of animals on Kepyr were very much like expanded lichen: dry, hole-filled, and ornately complex. There was very little in the way of truly solid surfaces because gravity, like time, had only the minutest influence. In the brief thousand years Fianxep had been alive, nothing had changed on this frail, but beautiful world, and he had no reason to suspect anything ever would.

In all the seventy nine billion years Kepyr had existed, two Astral Dragons had never crossed paths, even to reproduce. They are shy and change so much as they age, that the adults are almost unrecognizable compared to the young and contain opposing polarities, though their consciousness remains unchanged throughout their lifecycle. The Yeni theorized that if a young Astral Dragon was to see an ancient one, the consequences could be tremendous. These dragons evolved rapidly, and their delicate lives were somehow intertwined with the planet’s health on a fundamental level."
