Origins:
In the 1980s, a strange meteorite had crashed into Earth's surface and was taken by the United States military for testing.  The space rock was passed around to several different scientists who ran multiple tests on it, determining that it came from an unknown far away planet and emitted a form of radiation yet to be understood.  Eventually it ended up in the hands of Dr. Bryce Candleton, who believed that he can convert the rock into an alternative energy source similar to solar or wind power.  He accumulated a small team of other scientists to help him better understand how to accomplish the goal.  The others consisted of Dr. Beatrice Darian, a chemist, Dr. Anna Tonie, physicist, Dr. Jay Harrowitz, radiation scientist, and Bryce's brother Derek Candleton, janitor.  After months of research and testing, the group decided to experiment with the meteorite by converting its radiation into a usable energy source through a machine that would amplify the radiation in a chamber and collect it.  Testing day came and everything was a go: Jay placed the meteorite inside the chamber, Anna monitored the machine's diagnostics, Bryce and Beatrice were at the control center, and Derek was outside the room mopping a hallway.

The machine was powered up with a laser digging straight into the rock's surface.  Anna confirmed that radiation began to spike and told Jay to commence collection.  He did as he was told and activated the machine's collection system to suck all of the radiation out of the rock while Bryce and Beatrice kept the machine's power at a steady rate.  Things were going perfectly as planned, until the unexpected happened: the meteorite cracked.  The laser had broken the rock's surface and unleased copious amounts of radiation the machine couldn't keep up with.  Anna noticed the massive spike in energy while Bryce panicked to get it under control only to find everything malfunctioning.  The laser kept breaking more and more which made things even worse.  Jay attempted to run away from the machine but part of the ceiling collapsed by the exit and trapped him in with the machine.  The rock finally broke in half and released all of its energy that overloaded the already screwed up machine and caused a massive wave of energy to blast into everyone present before the machine collapsed with the rock inside.

Eventually, everyone wakes up to find themselves in a destroyed laboratory.  By a stroke of luck, nobody died, but everyone quickly noticed major differences in themselves.  Bryce could hear everyone's thoughts.  Beatrice could lift heavy rubble like it was nothing.  Anna's body was entirely made of metal while Jay was a puddle of sentient ooze.  And Derek kept shooting lightning out of his fingers.  It was clear, the meteorite's radiation had given the group mutated superpowers.  After everyone had settled down, Bryce knew he had to do something as he blamed himself for the accident and quickly got to work in his laboratory.

A few days and the group had a better understanding of their new powers and how to control them while Bryce ran tests to find a cure.  He determined that the radiation had mutated their DNA and the only way he could reverse it was through the reversing the radiation.  The problem was there was no radiation as all of it had escaped through the machine and the meterorite was destroyed, meaning they would be stuck with their freakish abilities for some time.  When Bryce delivered the news, most of the group were fine with it to his surprise.  They figured the only way they were going to be accepted in society was to use their outlandish powers for the outlandish job of superheroism the world has already become accustomed to.  One week later, the team had created their own costumes, converted their desert lab into a base of operations, and even had a flying car.  They debuted themselves to the world by stopping a small scale alien invasion as the Mysterious Five!

Members L-R:
Dr. Psychic/Number 1: Bryce Candleton was the head scientist of his group and appointed leader of the Five.  The radioactive blast had granted him the ability to read people's minds and to move objects and people with his own.  Added on to his genius level intellect, Candleton is considered one of the smartest metahumans in the world.  Also from the blast, his hair colored changed to a stark white which prompts him to dye it every so often, but it still fades.

She-Beast/Number 2: Beatrice Darian was Bryce's partner and resident chemist in the experiment.  She was granted the powers of super strength and increased durablity.  She jokes her powers are from being a health nut as she was known in the group for her daily work outs and disgusting fruit and vegetable smoothies.  Darian's hair color also changed from black to dark green but decided to keep it because she believes hair dye isn't too healthy for your scalp.

Sparky/Number 3: Derek Candleton is Bryce's less intelligent younger brother who only contacted his brother for a job because he owed him a favor, Bryce gave Derek a mop and appointed him a custodian.  While he wasn't in the room during the accident, Derek peaked inside after he heard it all happening just as it blew up, shooting him with just enough radiation to give him powers.  After which, Derek now had electrokinesis and could even manipulate the electricity in a person's body (which he found out by accident).  Weirdly enough, his hair had not changed due to the small amount of radiation he received.

Anna Droid/Number 4: Anna Tonie was the group physicist and engineer who was in charge of designing and monitoring the machine.  After the blast, her body melded with the computers and machines around her until her skin turned completely into metal and the rest of her body became machinery.  Later she also discovered that she could hack basically any system and could move her conscious into other computers.  Anna was the least enthusiastic of her transformation but warmed up to superheroism over time.  Her hair was still in place somehow but was now colored silver.

Slimeball/Number 5: Jay Harrowitz was another scientist who specialized in radiation.  Being the closest to the blast, his entire body had been transformed into a a big puddle of green slime and was presumed dead until the slime started to move.  Jay was still in there and had begun transforming himself back into a human shape for the next few days, eventually learning he can transform himself into almost anything gelatinous.  He had no hair to begin with.
