Description A Flood of Colour

Devon is always a place I enjoy visiting, ever since I was really small! My Grandparents have lived there my whole life and I used to regularly visit them. To me the beach there was just a place to mess around at and have fun, but now I’m older and have a keen interest in photography, the only time I’m there is at the crack of dawn with my legs knee deep in ice cold water. I took this shot on a day I had put aside purely for location scouting for the next morning, but ended up shooting some picture I am quite happy with. For me this was the first planned waterscape photography trip and surprisingly it was quite intimidating. The rough seas and strong winds really make you feel insecure and there were a few times when I was lucky not to fall in! The 'every 7 waves there’s a big one' rule didn't really work and I got caught out by a massive brute: It nearly took all my gear. Another scary thing with shooting at the coast is that you can quite easily get trapped and surrounded by the water. I was very lucky that I got off this rock I was standing on, because if I had left any later, the stepping stones I used to get on to it would have been under the waves.

p.s i'm kinda annoyed because this wasn't taking in particually good light. I feel I have found a decent composition, the technical side is good: but there just wasn't enough interesting light in the scene. Can't wait to go to America nxt year. Oregan coast here I come

great job, mate... so young and producing some good photos.

anyways, i think this image has potential.. the issues my eyes pick up are a lack of contrast and the buildings to the left.

oh, one more thing, i see a bit of what appears to be some untidiness regarding your post-processing, i.e., a bit of white at the mountain top to the left.

btw, in your artist's comments, you mentioned you used an ND8 filter but then you said you didn't use "any filters at all". if this is the case, you might want to change your artist's comments to avoid further confusion.

thanks very much.

Yea, I am not at all pleased with this photo and very likely to remove it. The conditions were pretty dissapointing. And regarding the processing: I had to redo it three times which took around 2 hours. Firstly because I oversharpened then resized which I only noticed when itwas too late.

Very nice composition. The shutterspeed is great: you really sea the water washing between the rocks. Only critic could be a lack of contrast. The colours could be slightly more punchy and maybe a hard grad could have been better, but I am not sure about that. On the other hand: you could lose a lot of details on the cliff.

really nice composition and shutter speed works well, it looks a little washed out in some areas to me though

Amazing, one again But I do agree with what you said in the description, if there was more light and the sky was more interesting it would make the composition a lot better, but you still got a really good composition

Well done, and I see this is your new lens? lol

hah yea, thanks buddy

Yeah. it really is a great lens. the only annoying thing is that because its soo wide I have to get extremely close to my forground interest. which means getting soaked
