Description  Hey guys, gals and fellow tetrapods.

Here is a lil' preview of a an upcoming art piece.

These are sketches of the know skeletons of two species of the beartrap fish, Dunkleosteus. These placoderm fish from the order Arthrodira were one of the first apex predators that came from vertebrates. For around 26 million years, From 382–358 mya in the Late Devonian, Dunkleosteus swam the across the regions in what we now call North America, Poland, Belgium, and Morocco.

On the left is D. terrelli, The type species and the most well known. There are 4 well persevered and undescribed skulls in the Cleveland Museum of Natural History.

On the right is D. marsaisi. This species fossils were found in the Atlas Mountains in Morocco. It was slight smaller than D. terrelli, with other distinguishing characteristics being a narrower snout. It is possibly synonymous to D. terrelli.
