Description
In 2006 I created a sea creature called "The Striped Kuma Beast". And although it is a pretty old drawing I still loved the concept and it always had a special place in my heart, so I gave them a huge makeover and I love the finished design. Striped Kuma beasts are large, cephalopod-like creature that is slightly larger then a school bus. They have eight tentacles and two larger tentacles with spikes on the ends, used for stabbing and catching food. They swim very similar to a jelly fish. They live very deep in the oceans and rarely come out in shallower waters, unless it's mating season. When it's time to mate they all gather to the surface and the males try to attract the females by puffing up and turning their skin and fins into vibrant displays of color, they can change their color just like a chameleon to show their emotions or to blend in with their surroundings. If the female is interested, she'll join the male and they do a sort of dance ritual before mating. Now, if two males are after the same female they will fight each other until the other surrenders. The Kuma males will turn very bright colors like reds, greens, whites, and blues to show their aggression or anger. So looking at this drawing it's clear two males are fighting either for a mate or for territory.
