Eyes and smiles are the most important aspects of people for me. His say a lot.
Good capture for spontaneity, attitude, and mood.
The lighting could be a bit better, but this is still a very good capture.

Experimentation is ideal and seldom do we ever get it perfectly right two times in a row.
Since photo settings are many times a matter of person taste, rather than a set standard, I simply was giving my thought on the lighting. Others might think it perfect as is. There are also variances because of different displays being used by the observers.
For digital artwork, this can be a big problem because of using different color spaces in your workflow. It can vary so much that I always recommend digital artists to view their work on someone else's computer ti see if their color and brightness is consistent with their own display (ideally they should use a standard space like sRGB in their work).
If you get a chance to see your photos on another person's computer, it would be interesting to see if your your photos look very similar to your own display. Usually this only makes a difference if you do post-processing of your photos. If you post-process your photos in a program like Photoshop, and your display is not calibrated, it could show up in DA on other people's displays very different than your own.
I don't know why I just wrote all of that, you probably already know it.
anyway, my comment about lighting was meant as opinion, not criticism.

I do have a monitor calibration gadget,
but I rarely get a chance to see my work on some elses computer.

yet you haven't made any more photos of him or? This is one of the last i looked at, so i didnt really look out for him but i dont think i have seen him otherwise
