We were amused too (and surprised!) This picture was taken at the in-laws house, where we'd been staying. The mama duck had about 16 ducklings to start off with before the brood stabilised at nine or ten, I think. That's her sitting on the step at the back, keeping an eye on the young 'uns (and the humans!) They were wild ducks so they came and went as they pleased - obviously!

That other one, with the cheeky duckling and big eyes is a great moment, too.
Did they make good neighbors?

They were very entertaining neighbours. They'd turn up for a feed every morning, pose for some photos, and then waddle off to the next house! There's a creek a few doors down and that was their 'home base'.
