Fantastic design for Death. She really does not need some bulky armour as she is Death itself which War, Famine, Conquest lead to. She's the end of things

I really like this idea... specially the fact that comparing to the other horseman, Death isn't bulky nor has a mighty armor or anything like that. She simply exists, and that is the most scary thing of all... to understand by this drawing that Death only needs a movement of her hand to bring death.

Can you do a Male Version of Death...just curious about what he looks like in a male version XD

Nerub09 [2014-11-16 10:35:38 +0000 UTC]
never really got why. Death is often depictedΒ as a women. I get why war is male. since it is a masculineΒ thing. but death is something to affects us all.

Speedpainting. If you're a superb speedpainter, you could have done this in an hour. Did you do this in an hour? That's not an attack in any way on quality of course, I'm just curious, cause I want to become so good I could do something like this in an hour, if only I got good enough.

yea this took a little over an hour to finish. mostly cuz i was improvising the design as i painted. focus on your fundamentals and technique first. speed comes with experience so dont focus too much on it

I agree. First I gotta learn how to do things properly. Then I can start practicing making that process more efficient!

It is very pretty. The flow is nice, the design is great with it's smoky appaerance and it's a very original take on it. I have never pictured the horsemen to be women at allΒ to be honest.
The only thing I would wish for is something more happening in the background.

This is a very solid piece. You put a great emphasis on the head and the green accents help move the eye through the figure. The forms are very elegant and smoke like which helps accentuate the female figure. That being said, especially when it comes to religious or mythological beings, there is a always a specific lore and attributes that make it so the character is recognizable . In this case the only description we have of the horseman Death is this:Β And I looked, and behold a pale horse: "And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth." The only things that tell us how he looks is that he rides a pale horse, that he is a he, and hell follows him. Other than that you can go buck wild Β with what you want to do. There is also some wiggle room within the defined statements as well. He doesn't have to be depicted with his horse but if he is the horse has to be pale. Death does have to be a male, but it never states his age, and if he is depicted with hell they have to be following him. That being said I still love this piece and my statement about the lore is just my opinion and how I think it should be done when painting mythological beings.Β

ah yes im aware of this. even so i did take some artistic liberties... that being changing the gender as well as a bunch of changes to the horses. honestly its just me having fun with the idea so ignoring some of the restrictions does give way for more space to fuss with the design and such

Well yeah obviously. It reads death right off the bat, and I love the design. Favorited as soon as I saw it. I guess what I was saying was more of a cautionary statement. Β Some cultures get very touchy when it comes to their mythology. But like I said, I love this piece.Β

I love to see everyone's different conceptions of the Four Horsemen. And while I will say that my favorite version of the Horsemen Death is still the Grim Reaper look... the way you draw your Death as the Token Female Reaper just looks badass if you don't mind me saying.
I just love how flowing, spiritual, and haunting she looks. Almost as if she barely has true form that can be comprehended and that this is just as merciful as Death will ever get to look like.
Lollygagging aside, It looks epic. Completely sold me on this concept. I like the idea of her being the Dark, Cranky, Serious, OlderΒ Sister of the rest of the Horsemen. The most mature and to the point.

No problem.
Hehe I'm just joking around, humanizing the characters doesn't make them as threatening, but it is fun. I always like to see Death as perhaps the most distant, powerful, and aloof compared to his/her siblings.
War is obviously the most rowdy, violent, blunt, and cruel of the Horsemen, to the point where he/she might as well just be the bully. Constantly getting on the other Horsemen's nerves and challenging their authority.
The White Horseman of Conquest is the straightforward, focused, and strategic leader who tries to carry out the plans and keep things in order, it's his way or the high way.
And then there's the Black Horseman of Famine... The schmuck of the group. Still I can imagine him being very sickly and sadistic in his trials^^
