Description
“So…” Athena’s mother, Mary, replied teasingly, “What did this boy want?” Athena was at the mercy of her family now. She had been through this before many times; another admirer was interested in Athena. Or so said the tale tell signs.
“I-I don’t know Mom.” Athena replied as she turn ten shades of red.
David and Philip noticed the way Athena blushed and got in on the teasing game, “So what’s his name?” David asked.
“And has he asked for your number?” Philip added.
Athena tried not to blush even more than she already had but she kept her head down and replied sternly, “Demitri, and no he hasn’t, he just walked me to class.”
“The simplest of gestures has a biggest of meanings.” Athena’s Father smiled and let out a chuckle, “So do you plan to run away with him?” Her Father added.
Athena turned hot fire red: She was going through the motions. Normally Athena would shrug it off, sometimes the guys that asked her out: Athena could see through a character and see could see a jerk a mile away. But somehow this guy was different: He seemed so sincere, real. Like her Father.
Just then Jonathon came in: Jonathon usually was later for dinner and hardly ever around. Mainly because Jonathon was the best in infiltrating enemy compounds: Either in covert ops and taking down the enemy from the inside or taking on a persona for up to months at a time. Thankfully if he had those missions he got a considerable amount of time off. Athena got up from the dinner table to greet him, “Jonathon!” Athena shouted as she came up to greet him. His expression lit up as he saw Athena, “Hey!”
“Hey!” David shouted, “You aren’t going to evade this conversation!”
“Spill the beans!” Philip added.
Jonathon looked at Athena, then at the crowd shouting at Athena, then back at Athena, “Ok so who’s the guy this time?” Athena blushed again. She thought she could avoid the subject, but nope. With three older brothers, and an assertive Mother and Father it wasn’t going to work. “He’s Demitri son of Vincent and of the Red Letter Base.”
“Demitri son of Vincent?” Jonathon asked.
Dad looked up from the table, “You know him?”
“I’ve worked under his commander before in the past. And yes I’ve met him, but I really only know him by reputation.”
Philip cocked an eyebrow, “He has a reputation?”
“What kind of reputation?” David asked in a detective tone.
“Hard working, and has medal or two under his belt.”
“Sounds like a suck up to me.” David coughed. Athena glared at David for that remark.
“He’s not a suck up David.” Athena replied harshly.
“Oh quite the opposite,” Jonathon added, “He, he” Jonathon thought for a moment, “You know, he kinda reminds me of you, Dad.”
“Really?” Dad asked, there was a momentary pause, “But I’m sure he doesn’t look as good as I do.” Athena rolled her eyes, her Dad’s cockiness almost made him like a teenager at times. But at often times her Dad’s wisdom surpassed her own: Especially with men. “But you know the rules Athena, if he asks for your number you ask him to set up an appointment to visit me and your brothers, and he’ll have to explain his intentions to me and your brothers.”
“Yes sir I know the rules, and if he does ask for my number I know who to direct him to.” Athena’s Father smiled, “That’s my girl.”
