Ryles is actually a very sensitive person, she just tries really hard to make it not seem that way, like Revali, she tends to hide her true emotions if those emotions are something she considers demeaning or hazardous to the wellbeing of the persona she keeps up, but on the inside she is a bundle of anxiety, she easily feels like she could cry at insults, seeing other people cry, thinking about the potential harm that could befall the people she cares for and her home etc, and she really struggles to control her tears in those situations, which makes her seem distant.

But does Revali know about this? For a long time he does not catch on, usually he’s pretty good at picking up on other peoples feelings, as observant as he is though, and despite the fact that they are both playing the same game of wearing masks, Ryles just has a talent for deceit, so he is clueless that sometimes his jibes and sarcasm may hurt her, but when he does eventually realize Ryles is more sensitive then she lets on, he eases up a few notches or at least makes sure she is aware he is merely teasing with her.<3
