i liked a great deal of this movie, but the slow parts really DID drag on... and yeah some of the choices with characters from Aliens was very disappointing, but it kinda fit with the general theme/mood of the series.

I never understood the love for this film. I mean even David Fincher hated his own film!
Maybe in the early concepts it could have been great, but effects, story and characters were pretty ad... (I still mourn Newt and Hicks!!)

Well considering that One of the previous movie concepts for this had Ripley become some sorta gun-toting Snow White to seven monks in a wooden ship... I say we got the best of a then increasingly bad situation.
Guess I just feel like it fit with the general theme of Ripley's shitty luck whenever aliens are near. They keep taking and taking from her whenever she's got a good thing going. The Nostromo, whatever life she could've had with her daughter, whatever life she could've had with Hicks and Newt, etc.
Favorite quote from this is when she realizes they've become such a part of her life that she has a hard time remembering anything before then.

Well, when you get the director of Seven and Fight Club quit before completion and never consider it part of his filmography, you know there's been a lot of problems on this film both during production and the final product!

Lance Henriksen was the only redeeming quality in this movie.

Even Henriksen's himself never been much of a fan of "Bioshop's implication in the film", like not making it clear if it was the "real" Bishop, a human Bishop who built these bots or another robot..

I thought it was cute how Lance said that when he was playing Bishop, he was acting like how he was when he was a kid. It's also a little sad too.
Without Lance, i don't really think i'd have any reason to watch the entire film. He's the best part. At least he's honest about not liking it.

My major complaint is that it was kind of boring compared to the other three. All I remember is the ending for the most part.

Well, it's not simply boring. It was a mess of a production and even David Fincher left before the end for good reason.

Yeah this film series feels cursed that way...granted as far as the main series is concerned its only...the second half of them, 3 and R that had serious production problems (we almost had a kick-ass giant white Xeno-Queen hybrid in R until that last director said he wanted something more human)
Also...both AvP movies and Prometheus suffered production and script problems from various parties interfering with each other and changing ideas around during development.

Aw, man! That giant white Xeno-Queen-thingie sounds pretty badass!!
the AVP films mostly suffered "lackluster" situations, common at the time for most Fox films. They made a lot of cheap blockbuster films based on popular ips at the time, trying to minimize budget and just rely on popular franchises. X-Men 3, the Fantastic Four films... heck even Die Hard 4!

Yeah it was from Joss Wheden's original script.
