I knew you of all people would be super happy with that news, of course! (As I was with Mike Haggar, of course!)

Or just more surprising.
As much as I like the choices they made and all... none of the characters is much of a surprise.
They're mostly returning characters from MVC1/2, or usual "crossover characters" like Hsien Ko (Pocket Fighter) here or Viewtiful Joe (Tatsunoko Vs C).
Only the Taskmaster really impressed me! I wasn't expecting the guy to make the cut.
X23, well, I luv her but she's mostly a Wolverine clone... (gameplay and plot-wise)

Yeah X23 taking the place of a chrater that could be better suited for the game... Like Oh I dunno Daredevil, Ghostrider.... Emma Frost... Heck I settle for Weasel.

The thing about Lei-Lei and all Darkstalker characters is, their only loosely related to what they're betraying. She is a Jiang-Shi, or stiff corpse, but she also has traits from a Chinese hopping vampire. Which are different then traditional blood sucking vampires, but are more related to ghost. It's why she hops when she walks forward and is able to run on air. That's also why so many either view her as a zombie, hopping vampire, or ghost, because capcom basically made her a mixture of all three.

The Jiang-shi = Chinese Zombie/Vampire thing has existed for a while. Jiang-shi are commonly compared to Vampire's since they are said to feed on your chi like an energy vampire.
Whichever one you prefer though, both are undead.
As for the pic, the lip kinda bugs me, but I like it.

No. Vampires are commonly considered as undead. IDK where you are getting this "cult" statement. Just because they maintain their bodies better then zombies doesn't make them not undead.
And no. The debate HAS existed for years. Even outside of Darkstalkers and Hsien Ko, various Chinese movies about Jiang-shi when translated to English would get translated to either zombie or vampire. Their is no agreement on it.

Hsien-Ko's been mistakenly called a vampire long before Twilight. Stop making up reasons to hate it!
Also, that's one chubby lip.
