...and then came the awful second season. As many hardcore fans of the show try to defend it, I understand why it was canceled following season 2...

Yeah, it got too caught up in the time travel rabbit hole. The only thing I found interesting was seeing a T-1000 try to be a parent to a child.

But there's also the worst episode of all time - the one where Sarah Connor thinks there are aliens and keep following alien hints all across the city! ugh...

what? you don't want to see Terminators fighting Xenomorphs? XD they've fought once before...

Even in comics I always found the premise to have both series meet pretty convulsed. I mean it sounds fun, like for a short animation or a video game. But what kinda plot makes Skynet face Xenomorphs? If anything they'd harvest them to attack humans, the Aliens would ignore the machines.
In the comics it was all about Weyland-Yutani making synthetic hybrid terminator-xenos.
I'd prefer to see RoboCop vs. Terminators. Or Xenos vs. the marines or the creatures from Starship Troopers!
(I'd love to see the creatures from Tremors vs. Predators for some reason! XD )

True, and their run-in in the comics was less than thrilling because they had to fit the Terminators into the AvP universe. Continuity headaches.

Watched very little of it. Know Terminator CAN work without Arnold, but just couldn't get into it.

Well, the pilot didn't help it, since it was so contrived.. and bad. But the first season was great after that.
The second one though... gets bad real quick.
