Late afternoon Jamie double checked Rosewood's information page making sure his registration had gone through and he had the event times correct. Walking into the house casually he slipped Sirus's wallet off the kitchen bench and into the baggy pocket of his hoodie before going to find Opal.

"Hey mum can I borrow the float?" Jamie asked finding Opal in the stables office.

Opal gave him a confused look. "Jamie you've got no licence where the hell are you going to go?"

"I'm catching up with Mels and Jenny tonight for a camping trip and I don't want to ride Dancer over or she'll be too tired to ride out with them," Jamie explained the lie falling from his tongue easily.

Opal mulled it over and Jamie swore she'd seen through his lie before she tossed him the keys. "Sure that's not far. Just make sure you stay out of the road of any cops and be back before dark tomorrow."

Catching the keys in surprise Jamie grinned and then bolted out of the house. Whistling for his pup Long Dog Jamie ran to the silver four wheel drive which had the blue float already attached and drove to the stables. Leaving the car running he raced up to the stable loft and grabbed his swag and overnight bag running down and tossing it into the car.
Putting down the float ramp Jamie raced to put Dancer's tack into the car before grabbing the roan mare out of her paddock and loading her into the float.

As soon as Dancer was in Jamie got into the car, Pup taking the passenger's seat and drove up the driveway waving to Sirus and Nat as he passed by them laughing at their looks of surprise.

Turning onto the main road south he drove quickly on the gravel road flying past the entrance to WAS and where Opal would be expecting him to be, instead heading as far south as he could reasonably get.

Arriving in the dark Jamie signed in at Rosewood before setting up a temporary pen and letting Dancer out and getting his own camp sorted for the night. Muting his phone he ignored the few texts from Opal and Sirus figuring he'd be in the shits when he got home but knowing it was well worth it to get to go to an event all on his own.

---

Waking in the dark of the very early morning Jamie shrugged out of his dew wet swag ignoring the bouncing of small feet as he startled a few wallabies and got up to feed Dancer and Pup before making coffee for himself.

It was about 5.30am when he tacked up Dancer and walked the mare through the fog filled trees to the start of the race. He chatted with the other entrants and collected his map, compass and check cards.

Mounting up he called Pup over trusting the stag hound to stay close, the dog was used to coming out alongside the horses and wouldn't wander off. Walking Dancer to the start he waited for the call to head out, ignoring the insistent vibrations coming from the phone in his pocket. He was really looking forward to this ride, a chance to relax, bush bash and explore more of the state that was now his home.

No references used so I apologise for anatomy. I didn't think I was going to be able to enter this so stopped and then frantically finished it off this afternoon.

Jamie's definitely very lucky that Dancer is a good girl and is about as bombproof as you can get so won't ditch him without good reason 😊
