Description Just felt like I wanted to submit this a bit "older" photo that I found while re-organizing my photos.

How adorable!

The parrot's wonderful colors and straight-on look make the photo very alive. I like it.

It was a good day for it, since it actually stayed still for a while so I was able to photograph it.

Very nice capture on colors and highlights. The focal depth and incidental blurring of the body strike me as a tad odd, but it does very well to enhance the details on the head, and draw the viewer's eye there.

Thanks for the comment. ..the blurring is something that comes when you shoot with long focal lenght and high aperture. That's something I have in quite many of my parrot photos, I prefer the shallow DoF to get nice background.

Yes yes, I know about the blurring and bokehing due to those factors (as well as the enhancement of detail within the 'core focus' as you use the larger and larger apertures). The blurred body is just a little against my own personal preferences, which is why it struck me as odd. But it is an admirable technique, nonetheless.

Thanks! Well, not something I upload here often but something I do photograph quite a lot. This is just one of the better ones.

Bravo. The only thing I wish is that his body was a little more in focus.

But the way you took the photo brings all the attention to his face, especially his eye, which works wonderfully.

Thanks... just the basic "schoolbook" way to photograph birds.

MindlessConception In reply to theFouro [2007-09-05 11:29:31 +0000 UTC]

Haha, probably easier than standing inside the house and photographing them through a window with a telephoto lens (that's what I have to do ).

Well, I hope to get a decent telephoto lens for next spring so I could try to photograph other birds than the ones that let me to come within 2 meter. But even the Sigma 100-300 f4 isn't that cheap, at least for me...

Yeah, I use the Nikkor 70-300 VR lens. It's pretty useful, but I can only be so far away from the subject.

I am going to attempt setting the camera up on the tripod with the wide angle lens RIGHT next to the bird feeder, and then use my remote to snap some cool pics. I just hope the camera doesn't get pooped on!

Heh, you'll need a D200 or 300 for it with weather proofing.
