Description
This model sheet includes a 2 point turnaround of Jet as well a reference for the bottom of her boot and the inside of her mouth. It also has references for some of her human-designed gem-generated swords.Related content

BTW, I noticed that Jet hates the diamonds a ton, and that she knocked out her allies just to get back at Yellow Diamond. Does she hate the Crystal Gems?

Oh I made that image just for fun. It's not actually part of her story. She doesn't necessarily hate them but she doesn't want to join them because they're focused on protecting Earth while Jet is bringing war to the Diamonds. Also some of the Crystal Gems shattered some of Jet's sisters during the war on Earth.

What did the diamonds do to jet?

To put it simply, Jet and her sisters tried to negotiate a ceasefire between the Crystal Gems and Homeworld. The Diamonds kick started the battle resulting in the deaths of her sisters.

What's her weapon supposed to be?

It's actually two weapons. The first is a hard-light bardiche that is capable of shattering a diamond if neccessary (It's rumored that the Shungite Order shattered Pink Diamond at White Diamond's request, and then framed Rose Quartz). The second one is a hardlight rifle capable of taking out targets more than 3 miles away.
This Shungite was a former Order member, but was kicked out (and subsequently exiled) for as of yet unknown reasons.

wait are you the one who made that gemsona animation? i recognize that background anywhere and i really love how original it is! it looks great and it actually feels like it belongs in the series! ive been trying really hard to make my gems fit in the series but yours definitely takes the cake!

Sorry to hear that, but it sure looked great! I was so blown away to see that someone out there was capable of making such amazing original designs based on the series, I've been pushing myself to try harder in that field cus of stuff like yours. How do you go about training yourself to match the style?

I study the styles closely and analyze the shape design and shape language of the character designs. Then it's simply a matter of frankensteining a character based on body parts on characters that fit what I'm imagining. Jet, for example is based on a specific mix of Jasper, Amethyst, Lapis , Opal, and Malachite.

Oh yeah there is some Malachite and Lapis present in her design, nice! Yeah I hear people who use similar methods to create their gems but I'm more blown away at how well they manage to retain the style of the original series. Are there certain brushes and tools you use in photoshop to get a desired look for the backgrounds or the outlines? Cus no matter how much I work at it I still feel like I'm not quite there with matching the style yet.

The Steven Universe crew actually have specially made Photoshop brushes for the background artists. I just tried my best to recreate them. I also downloaded brushes Moos for the little diamonds. Heres the link: 2mummu.deviantart.com/art/Moos…. He has a second series of brushes for clouds but I prefer make the clouds by hand to make them feel more authentic. As far as the brush for the character designs, I just use a default brush at 5 px.

Yeah it looks like an extremely customized style of brushes for the background, I've spent weeks just trying to get it right. Does it take a long time to do the colored patterns and designs for the homebase of your gems?

It did take me a couple of days to get the colors just right. If you haven't already, I suggest following the Crewniverse Tumblr page. They post some of their backgrounds there and that's what I use as the primary reference when making my own backgrounds for my gem art.
