Are you happy?I wonder.
In this life you did not choose?
What do you wonder, I wonder,
What do you see and think of the world,
moving beyond you.
Do you ever wonder what it sounds like?
But then, I wonder,
do you even hear, see, or wonder at all?
In your own little mind, in your own little world.
Do you know the color of your scales or that by which I call you?
Is it the same word I use, or something slipping beyond my mere attemps at understanding?
Perhaps it is nothing at all and I am, in fact, truly mad to bother wondering.
Are you happy?
I must ask again.
In this life you did not choose?
Do you know, I wonder,
do you comprehend the status of your captivity?
Are you aware of the frailness of your prison's invisible walls?
But then, I wonder,
do you realize the nature of your jailor?
In your own little mind, in your own little world.
For try as I may, I cannot help but feel the faintest guilt,
that I must be your warden, and for what I and the world have robbed from you.
For that I must apologize, as I find myself forgetting in my wonderings.
For I would like to think that
in some small way we are alike.
And if so, then perhaps your existence will have taught me something.
And if not, then know that you unknowingly bring purpose to my existence.
And know, if you can, that I am glad for your company.
