Um, actually, androids can't change skin colour. Androids can deactivate their skin, not change its colour. Also, blushing has nothing to do with skin colour. You blush red/pink regardless of your skin's colour.Β

Of course blushing has to do with skin colour. It's the very definition. It shades to a redder hue of whatever your usual pigmentation is due to increased blood-flow (the capillaries under the skin expand slightly and because there is a lot of subsurface scattering in human skin, it looks redder.) I'm sure you knew this. I don't know why you assume *I* don't. *shrug*
But whether an android could blush or not, depends on if it's *engineered* to. And if they are meant to interact with people. show emotions (they smile don't they?), it stands to reason they would be engineered to be able to blush.
And they CAN change skin colour. You can see it happen. Maybe it's only between "ON" and "OFF" (two colour states) but denying it happens at all is weird.
We don't know how they do it. Fine. I think the most realistic technology to make it happen would be a thin film OLED display, or E-Paper technology which would be able to take on any hue.
But say you are right. maybe it's some technology we don't have yet. A sort of force-field/pseudo-matter-field that can ONLY go between two programmed states.
It seems a simple engineering challenge to make an alternately programmed face skin that can look blushed.
It all comes down to engineering and design choice. We have the technology now. (e-paper) and we have the motive to make that design choice. (better emotional simulation)
