Description
I made a papier-mache monster mask
Β I still need to add straps and maybe some form of sealant (would anyone recommend anything?).

you could try mod podge spray sealant. you can get it on amazon.

Ok, so I know its scary and creepy and a monster face, but I just can't help thinking it's kind of cute too. Is that bad? Like it has such a happy grin, it looks like it would legitimately want to be your friend, but everyone was scared of it. But it still tries to stay positive because it understands that people don't understand it.Β

I like to think that monsters would have distinctive multi-faceted personalities, just like you and I, but are misunderstood because of their immediate appearance. So your comment makes me really happy, haha.

Now that you said it, you're totally right - it is the eyes!
But yeah, it often feels like whenever a monster is portrayed (or really a lot of different fictional characters, too) only one character trait is featured, and everything else is ignored. Especially in monsters, they are often created with one thing in mind - being scary. It always interests me when I think about the motivation behind those traits: why do they seem scary, are they actually bad or do we just see them as bad, etc. That's why I love characters with more fleshed-out characterization, or characters that just exude more than one simple thing.
Also I don't think you're odd to do that. If anything, it takes more understanding and open-mindedness to see past the creepy. But I'm totally the same sometimes - I love imagining creepy looking creatures as having friendly or bubbly personalities. I mean, they can't all be bad, right? Β
