I'm on a site...*blinks* Cool! And don't worry, I take it as a compliment that you aspire to pwn my ponytail. Hell, I didn't know it was something to aspire too. But, go for it!
Thank you for all the compliments. If there is anything I can help you with for your cosplay, don't hesitate to ask, yeah. I love helping people out. Don't worry, I don't bite. ...Although my hands might. Wow, that was a lame joke *sweatdrop*...hehe...yeah....

Your cosplaylab site or whatever? That's what it was. But I do need help with the handmouths. How can I make a 3D pair that stays on my hands? I don't want to draw them on.

TheifKingKura In reply to Kemmeru [2007-09-17 19:39:59 +0000 UTC]
I had a hard time with this since hands are the hardest (or one of the hardest) parts of the body to work with, with makeup and the like. You can't apply anything to them without restricting your movement. Then at Metrocon this year, I saw this girl who had an amazing idea. Fingerless gloves with the mouths sewn in using craft foam. It looked great and I'm working on my pair now. The real trick in trying to get them to match your skin tone. I'm messing around with that....at the moment, nylons are looking like the closest match....but sewing gloves is going to be interseting...yeah

Kemmeru In reply to TheifKingKura [2007-10-14 14:21:55 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, I did that, and it works perfectly! Every Deidara cosplayer should do this! I actually perfected them at my local anime club.
First, you get a pair of nylons. To make the gloves, just cut off the foot on one leg, and then simply cut a glove sized loop out of the nylons. DO NOT CUT THE SIDES!! That will mean extra sewing and look bad. Put the loop on your right hand if you're right handed, and on your left hand if you're left haded.
Cut a hole big enough for your thumb to fit through. Then, take some flesh coloured thread and gently sew the nylon between your fingers, making a glove while it's still on your hand. That way, you don't waste time measuring.
You can make some extra stiches under your thumb to make the glove tighter on your wrist. Take the glove off, flip it inside out, and you have the glove for your left hand, if you are right handed, and vise versa for the left-handed folks.
Do the same process, but sew with your weaker hand to get the glove for your dominant hand. Go slowly, it's harder to sew with your weaker hand.
Make the mouths out of foam or fabric, and glue them on. I used hot glue and put the mouths on while the glove was still on my hand. Bad move. I got burned, so put some padding if you use this method. It works the best because you're doing the gluing while the gloves are on, so you get the most natural mouth placement.
I want to make a few different pairs, so that I have different "expressions" for my hand mouths. Makes cons more interesting.
Sorry for the VERY long comment! I wanted this to be useful for the other Deidara cosplayers that read this. Be warned...nylon rips easily, so a few pairs of these are good.

You haven't seen some of my monster comments....They have been nicknamed the 'epic posts'....yeah...hehehe *sweatdrop* Hopefully that won't happen here....
Thanks for the help. as of right now I've been terribly lazy so I haven't got a chance to make them yet but I will...eventually. Right along with redoing my wig, buying/dying/styling Leader's and Konan's wigs, and making Zetsu's flytrap thing....*sigh*...god I have a lot to do. School, why do you have to eat my time, you fiend!
Yeah I think I get what your saying, but just to add something, clear nail polish is going to be added to my 'ultimate cosplay repair kit' because that stuff seriously is the shiz when it comes to fixing nylons. I always heard that it helped stop runs but I never knew the extent of it's amazingness until recently. Also I couldn't help but think that putting some of it on the ends could help prevent the nylons from attempting to pull a disappearing act on you (when they unravel past your stitching) I'm not to sure if nylons do that as much as some other fabrics, but I would take no chances.

You know, I've never seen a guy Deidara....wow, I never realized that until now....strange...
Our entire Akatsuki cosplay group (or the majority of it) are girls, and our Hidan is one as well. We just used a full body leotard for the whole explosed chest thing, granted she is rather flat chested...lucky...so she doesn't really have to deal with bindings as much as some other people *coughItachicoughAs for advice in that department, I can't really say I have any to give. I think they are just bound to be painful regardless, hehe bound...puns...bad joke....ok, back on topic, I think the main thing to focus on is not to strap you down ''til you look flat, because is most cases, that ain't gonna happen, but to hold you in and then to try to make everything else meet it, so it looks even and smooth, and therefore flat. As for the gunk on the bra, try goo gone, it's amazing.
I love wigs, and although I have been known to use hot glue every once and a while (to all those cosplayers reading this, don't do this, glue is bad for wigs) I try to stay away from it because as a rule you're not really supposed to use it...hot plus wig equals hot melted slag which is painful... I could see wire being potenial though...I might look into that...Aqua Net hairspray is my life source for wigs....It can do ANYTHING. I swear, it's freakin' glue in a can. I made Deidara's hair, Hidan's hair (which was from a prestyled *evil* bob with bangs) , and I made my friends real hair into Sasuke's hair multiple times with it. I make sure to have at least 4 bottles of that stuff whenever....ah wigs...so much fun....
A link would be lovely, but I wouldn't know where to put one up. If you have an idea I'd be happy too do so.
And this would be one of those Epic Posts...or at least, it is getting close to it...which is why I'll stop...yeah...

Trust me, a male Deidara cosplayer is a sad sight to see. Or a vomit inducing sight. I have yet to see a male who can pull it off. [link] This is a male Deidara. In the one shot where you can see his face, you can definitley see a little moustache. DX
Well, I let the glue sit on the wire for a couple of seconds before stiching the hair to it...then it holds and doesn't melt. Aqua net hairspray, hm? Gotta try that.
Bwa ha ha, I have actually butchered my hair for the sake of cosplay. Now it's a nondescript short cut, but with some spray wax, I can easily be Sasori, and all I have to do is slick it back and dye it silver to be Hidan. The bad thing is that people tend to mistake me as a guy. I've had girls flirt with me. It's....awkward, to say the least. *shudder* But ot as awkward as showing up to my local anime club and being the only one in costume. They just don't cosplay...*shakes head* So I'm planning to shock them with a voodoo seal Hidan costume. Heh heh... But I'll be Deidara until then. I'm just fixing the little details.
Those legwarmers frusturate the hell outta me. I can't get them to stay on, or make the little thing under the foot to look right. They fail....I currently tie them on withstring, but I get bruises and I can't bend my legs, so I'll be cheap and stick them on with some chest binding tape. XD That'll work...

TheifKingKura In reply to Kemmeru [2007-10-16 10:30:19 +0000 UTC]
Oh, legwarmers...good times, good times....those were one of the few things not on my list to do...instead our Itachi had to sew nine pairs of them....she made her own pattern for them, and by the end, I think she wanted to kill someone...or the sewing machine. They have a thin elastic band at the top and a thick band at the bottom to go under the foot.
Sadly my hair would never work even if I cut it...I have very thick, curly/messy hair...It bairly fits under the wig even when it's geled and pinned down...*le sigh* but I've had to deal with it for 16 years...I've learned to live with it....

Anyways...down to business, the extentions are the top piece (which underneath is foamcore...actually that entire piece was attached) and all around the base of the part I hand stitched extentions as to not reveal the mesh.
Which post are you responding too, by the way?
As for what I'd change....god, what wouldn't I....I am already planning a new version of this which will
-be longer and better cut
-The ponytail will be poofier
-better stabilized (how I did it and how I will are my little secret ^_^...it's not hard, just unusual)
-the bangs will be more acurate i.e. gravity defying
-the ponytail will shoot directly from the scalp piece (meaning no part...'cause he actually has no part...I love when the hairstyles are actually impossible)
- and it will be more golden and less gray....yeah
There's probably more, but, eh....You get the basics....yeah

The post on cosplay.com, "How Imitate Deidara's Hair With Wig" I think was its title. XD
I'm lazy, so... Ino's hair will just be a normal wig with it's chin-length bangs swept to one side. I also don't want to mess up a wig when styling it... 'cause at the moment, I'm jobless (Oh, the woe of being young) and I can't really go out and buy another one when it gets destroyed. I'm thinking of doing lesbian Ino (Purple hair, rainbow hair elastic, pink triangle earrings) for a day. To see how that turns out.
Hmm... I don't know if it was you. I saw the name somewhere on YouTube, if I remember correctly... I think my brother was looking up "Naruto Abridged skits" and it was in the "Related" section...
Ah, colours. Choosing Ino's hair was a pain if only because her hair changes colour. I mean, In the anime it's a really pale colour but in the coloured manga it's more yellow... I'm picky~ And I don't want a ton of glue or anything in the wig, because I want it to seem as real as possible. So.. like.. I want it to actually move, and not be a helmet. XD
IT doesn't look gray to me. But then again, my eyes are pretty bad.

The fact that it was a do-able challenge. And that no one had done the character justice. That's also why I did Sasori's costume and why I'm doing Zetsu now for my Colombian friend when he comes back.
In all honesty....I like attention....I know, shallow, but hey, we all like to get compliments. So, I'm not going to choose a really easy costume, because the simpler, the harder it is to pull of in my opinion. Because, with those easy costumes, there isn't much detail to them, so it comes down to you actually resembling the character, which is difficult for me. Also, when you do a somewhat popular character, people will recognize you with out there being a hundred of you to be compared against....
It also helps that I absolutely adore Deidara....yeah

TheifKingKura In reply to Maliyura [2007-07-17 15:22:25 +0000 UTC]
Hahahaha, yeah, but I like Deidara because of that lovable quality he has. Which is strange because he's supposed to be a villian, and he actually is quite evil but I like that he has some human-ness about him, like a personality (something which Itachi is severly lacking *coughcough*) and he has some little quirks. *shrug* but aside from that it's kind of hard to explain.
Who from FFXIII would you like to cosplay? Although I must admit my knowledge of the FF world is limited, I know quite a bit about it (for someone who doesn't play the games) and I love helping people with their cosplays. 'INSANELY hard' you say. Hmmmm......
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
TheifKingKura In reply to Maliyura [2007-07-18 16:12:24 +0000 UTC]
That is not that difficult of a costume, it's just inticrate and detailed, like most FF characters, but I was expecting something imposible to do. That would actually be interesting to sew. I think I have a pattern for that kind of shirt. The boots would be challenging but they practically give the seams to you...actually it seems like the tall parts are an actual extention piece so that makes it easier, you just need to find a shoe of the base and make an attachable piece for the high parts (with straps of course), or you could just make the entire thing a cover. I'm not good with bags so I don't know how you'd go about that but from the looks of it, it will probably be tedious with those seperate sections, the straps aren't that difficult though. Armor on the shoulder is probably the most difficult piece along with whatever weapon she has (I can't really see it). But it's those challenges that make it fun.
Great, I was trying to prove it wasn't that hard and I ended up writing a freakin' novel. That's not very reassuring is it? Oh well.
Anyways, our Leader (The shorter person in our group painted entirely black) is a Neji lover as well. Alas, although I love all the angsty bishies, my heart belongs to Shikamaru. Just don't ask, it's really hard to explain.
Lastly, about Deidara, the manga helped a little. Although I am rather good about reading people, especially characters in movies or TV shows, books as well....yeah...don't know why....I think I look to far into things....and overthink things...yeah....

lol, but you can't kill leader, she's, well, our leader....and the only one who's 18...Yeah, she's short....but don't worry she likes Edward Elric better.
Anyways, yeah Shika's hair is weird...scary thing is...with enough patience and hairspray, my real hair can do that...I have really thick, poofy hair, so it actually looks right...yeah...I've actually tried.
I'll help with props if you need it. Actually the prop type things (the more crafty things as apposed to the sewing) are my favorite thing to do, 'cause you get to be creative. Especially since you have to make it work within their (cons) weapons standards which is sometimes very difficult....
Hah, in all honesty I'm not all that great at cosplay, and to tell you a secret, Deidara is my first real cosplay. I did Tayuya first but I made that in like a trip to Goodwill and an evening before the con. Now that I look at it, it was crap. So was the Gaara costume I made for Sasori. Oh well, first cosplay, it happens. But I've only been cosplaying for, what, a year now (wow, almost a year to the dot, bizarre) so please, I doubt your anymore a newbie than me. From what I've seen, your cosplays have been really good, so don't put yourself down. I really can't give tips on how to get good at cosplaying, but I would just advise to observe. Honestly, I can't sew for my life. But I've looked at my clothes and I went to Jo-ann fabrics and looked at patterns to figure out how, well, clothes are made, where seams are, different necklines, how fabrics fall, and such. From there it's kind of, figure it out as you go. Sometimes things work, sometimes they don't and you have to go back to the drawing board. I could give you countless examples of times when things went wrong, but hey, it came out alright in the end....yeah....I'm ranting again....I should really learn to stop doing that.....one of these days....

um...yeah, I guess it's happy. Yeah I went to the midnight premire thing for the movie and the book. XD I'm such a nerd. Especially since at the book thing me and my friends were bored, so we ended up running around Barnes and Noble leaving these little secret messages on hot pink Post Its all over the store. The messages were all rather stupid. They all started with 'Harry Potter Secret # (insert random number)' then followed by whatever idiocy we could come up with. Some of the ones I can remember were 'Harry is on Voldie's top eight', 'Snape is a closet Panic! at the Disco fan', 'Harry is a L337 h4x0r m4s7a!!111 (or something along those lines...I am not l337 by any means....can you tell?), then some of my favorites, 'Snape IS Dumbledore' and 'Rocks fall, Everyone Dies'. The last one is the best...it comes from this livejournal icon. Everytime someone would try to get our opinion on what was going to happen in the book we would just turn to them and say in the most serious voice we could, "Rocks fall....Everyone dies". We got some pretty weird looks. But I'm used to them, I cosplay.
