We americans are quite lazy when it comes to changing firearms to fit our own needs.. Such as why that Chauchat there jammed because of being chambered in .30-06 (We did the same with MG42s, screwing up even more by FORGETTING TO CHANGE THE RECEIVER TO ACCEPT THE ROUND.) Next time mister American soldier, get yourself BAR, it works wonders just ask Clyde Barrow and the many other criminals.

It only had 20 rounds per magazine though, and by the time it arrived the War was already ending. And by WW2 the Bren and the Browning looked more promising (if bigger and heavier).

We Americans were, for the most part, very lazy when it came to the use of machinery. They mainly borrowed French equipment, which makes no sense considering even some French soldiers were ditching their own gear in favor of captured German guns or British gear.

That's probably what he meant. The only Mauser I can think of with a 98 in it is the Mauser-K98 rifle.

I'm pretty sure the Thompson was invented following WWI, and was used in WWII.

Actually, even in pristine condition the Chauchat was notorious for jamming after as few as 6 rounds due to its internals being incredibly iffy, especially in the middle of trench warfare.

Alrighty, you got me there. But it's still true, albiet not as much as I originally assumed.
But hey, that happens.
My knowledge of the Chauchat admittedly only came from one source, namely this one:Β youtu.be/Qr1INupPSf4?t=13m15s

i don't trust that guy fully. he seems to embrace myths about weapons and calls many weapons just junk, dispite that the so called junk killed a lot of people.

-shrug- to each their own, I think the only thing that made me go with R. Lee Ermy's opinion is just that he had combat experience in Vietnam.

eh, go with forgotten weapons opinionΒ since they showed that the chauchat can be fired in full auto without jamming. and there's no denying it, they demonstrated it on camera.

Well I never denied that it could, I only mentioned its reputation for jamming regardless of how hyperbolic said reputation is.
