I wanted to get this out while I was still very excited about Ico. I just finished the game today.
I think it received some hesitation to be played by Americans. This hesitation, I think, came from the fact that the American cover art is incredibly dorky. The characters do not look like themselves! It just feels all wrong, my apologies to the artist.
Look past the cover, it is a beautiful game. From what I'm reading, it seems to have been "rediscovered" after the popularity of Shadow of the Colossus, an amazing game by the same people. Ico is not nearly as exciting as Shadow of the Colossus, but they have a lot in common and are both amazing.
