Description Amelia Pond, also a scene from the second episode.

This was an educational drawing. I found a new way of drawing hair.
Maybe later I'll do a drawing of Amy and Rory.
But right now I REALLY need to get back to studying.

Yes! I rock at this game.
Since you got yourself a DA account, you should take photos of your minature statues. I bet people would love them!

Another mind-blowing image. (How much more can my brain take in such a short amount of time?)
Okay, everyone else is saying it, and I fear I must repeat them...the hair IS awesome! It has such fluidity and life. Everything from the motion of it to the highlights--it all matches up so PERFECTLY.

And I love how the brush strokes fade away at the bottom of the portrait. And the background deserves some complimenting as well, because it's so pretty. ^,^ (Okay, so I'm biased here, because the predominant color is blue, which naturally calls to me.)

With each new deviation I see from you I am so grateful I started following your work. Not only did I find a fine fellow artist and friend, but I've been seeing your skills as they enter each new level. With each picture you improve in another area and show that you're not afraid to experiment and try new techniques. (It's rather inspiring actually.) ^_^

The whole point of the drawing was to get a chance to draw Amy's floating hair, so I don't mind people pointing it out.

Thank you so much, you don't know what your always-kind-and-encouraging words mean to me.

And it was the PERFECT excuse for drawing her hair. (I can't imagine how long you must've spent on it!)

Aw, you're welcome.

That hair is fantastic. Normally, when I see artist's do the hair like that I immediately think of squid or octopus (sometimes Medusa ), but this feels so much more natural and realistic than most other efforts I've seen. It gives proper meaning to the term "flowing". And the hair itself is intensely realistic in shading.

The background is also beautifully serene. And kind of...pixelated? I dunno, but it looks like it's composed of very tiny squares if I lean in and look far too closely. It gives it a little bit of contrast to the smoothness of the character.

I can't judge for the scene itself, as I haven't seen the original, but from the picture I like it.

TheJenjineer In reply to JNels [2010-06-15 17:13:41 +0000 UTC]

Wow, again with the nails and hammers. Ummm... okay, so I sorta just clicked 'add noise' because I just did a big starry night thing a picture ago and didn't feel like drawing another one. So yeah, pixels.

I didn't work from a reference this time, but here's the scene if you want to see it: [link] The hair looks so awesome, doesn't it?

JNels In reply to TheJenjineer [2010-06-16 12:16:04 +0000 UTC]

Well, the effect worked in the end, which is what's important.

Actually, after seeing that scene, I think I kinda liked your picture a little better. There's a level of mysterious allure your picture has that the clip didn't, at least to me.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TheJenjineer In reply to JNels [2010-06-16 12:42:39 +0000 UTC]

Lesson learned. Only do the add noise thing IF you resize. That way people can't tell. This is at 100% you see.

Haha, she does look like a Barbie! I think it's because her skin doesn't have any texture.

Ah, now it's back to your old style! This is another great picture! Obviously, your art has improved since the sort break you had! Schoolwork keeping you busy? it may just be me, but I could swear you haven't been on very much.
The hair is easily my favorite part of this picture, the shading and highlights are amazing! Actually, the shading of the complete picture is really good! It's soft, yet dark enough in all the right places.
I also like the background, it's simple yet imaginative. All in all, another great piece of art!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TheJenjineer In reply to SteelFanged [2010-06-10 19:59:53 +0000 UTC]

Yup, my old cartoony yet slightly realistic style (as opposed to my really big-eyed Disney-ish cartoony style).
It hasn't so much improved as much as taking forever to do a picture because you're too tired to start another one but need to draw to relax yourself.

SteelFanged In reply to TheJenjineer [2010-06-10 21:02:27 +0000 UTC]

I see places where the two clash.
But not in the bad way!
Hmm, I can understand being too tired to do something, but needing to do it so you can sleep. Perhaps that's the same thing?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TheJenjineer In reply to SteelFanged [2010-06-15 17:19:36 +0000 UTC]

It's really relaxing! Stroke after stroke until it's juuuuuuust right. See, coloring's my favorite part, and if I start a new drawing I'd have to have a sketch, and then maybe even ink it. Sketching fun's when you're feeling creative, but inking is my LEAST favorite part.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SteelFanged In reply to TheJenjineer [2010-06-17 20:04:22 +0000 UTC]

Coloring is my favorite part as well. I like choosing all the pretty colors!
I hate inking too. My hand keeps shaking, and before I know it, I've messed up, and it'd be too much work to fix it digitally, so I have to redraw the entire picture. Oh well, at least I get plenty of practice!

TheJenjineer In reply to SteelFanged [2010-06-24 13:16:45 +0000 UTC]

Nope, not really. If I really can't draw a line straight, I'd use the pen tool sometimes. But I don't know how to fix a shaky hand.

This is absolutely amazing and it shows wonderful progress on your part. The hair is so vivid, bright and everything is just right. The highlights, the curves, the shadows, lighter and darker strands. And it just catches your eye! It's a very nice contrast with the background and her lighter tones. Brilliant! The lips might need a slight touch up, but it's not bad. I'm just picky. X3 One of your best works yet, imo. Great work!

TheJenjineer In reply to Jiosen [2010-06-08 18:55:28 +0000 UTC]

I tried adding more detail to the lips. Though they're so tiny, I doubt you can even see.

Thank you. Every once in a while I get an urge to try painting. There's just so much inspiration on DA!
I'll try to give the lips more details as soon as I'm back on my computer. And please, be as picky as you like! I can't always fix the things you point out, but I do keep your advice in mind the next time I work.
