Description I usually draw her for my GTS works, so I think it's only appropriate she gets a proper introduction. As I drew this before I could include her birth name, I apologize for it not appearing in the picture.

Brief Biography
Mercedes (birth name Skawennahawi, translated roughly as 'she carries the message') seemed to be destined for "greatness" from the beginning due to her pedigree. For starters, she was born to the Brant family, considered the most influential family of the Kuasari Confederation, a loose union of six tribes with similar cultures, traditions and linguistics. Like her brother and cousins, a lot of their beliefs are heavily drawn from their legendary grandfather, and will continue to shape and mould their outlooks in life. For Mercedes in particular, her road may be the most challenging, especially on a personal and cultural level.

Mercedes was chosen as one of the few Kuasari children to be sent over to the Kingdom of Icelia to study, namely to get the Kuasari people up to speed with the cultures and norms of the known world, as part of a political deal. Saying there was an uproar over sending children over to a foreign land to study was an understatement, her cousin Javier being a notable naysayer, but her grandfather recognized the necessity, and as much as he is reluctant to potentially lose one of his granddaughters to a foreign culture, agreed to do so. Despite the considerable distance between her and her family, she still maintains contacts with her brother and cousins, usually sending back gifts from her time in Icelia (even if some of the gifts do cause some annoyance, such as the dress and high heel shoes she sent to Joaquina.)

Mercedes was lucky to be placed under the tutorage of the ruling Sheffield family, something helped by her own pedigree. Although she initially struggled at first, she managed to make a lasting impression with her amazing learning skills and charm. In particular, she developed a close relationship with Joseph Sheffield, and some even say she has a crush on him (or vice versa, no one really knows). Mercedes is close friends with Maria, Joseph's twin sister, and also considers the archbishop Emmanuelle as a positive influence (she was brought in as a magic tutor for her, since the Icelians lack lightning element casters).

Her time in Icelia is nearly up, and she will soon be returned back to her relatives. No matter how they receive her, there is no doubt that she will bring about a change when she does return. The only question is how big of an impact will she leave on her people when that happens.

Personality
Mercedes is shown to be very patient, kindhearted and understanding, three traits necessary to live in a foreign land for an extended period of time (and possibly why she was the one chosen to go on this study tour). Mercedes is good-natured and likes to think for others, though she does not want to admit it personally, seeing it as her own selfishness. Her going to Icelia is a good instance, as she sees it as her selfish desire to see the world rather than forging good ties between her people and the Icelians. Similarly, it also took her quite a while to open up to the Sheffields when she first arrived in Icelia. Mercedes is known to shoulder her burdens to a very stubborn degree. Although she does adopt the Borealian style of clothing, she lets her hosts take care of her clothing choices and hair. Mercedes is also known to be shunned within public circles as her tanned skin tone made her obvious.

There are always drawbacks to living under the shadow of a famous relative, and in Mercedes' case, hers manifests in a lack of self-confidence, especially to do what needs to be done. This hits her the hardest, as she struggles to blend in her teachings with the cultural beliefs of her people, which can contradict each other at times. While she is not unintelligent, this inability to make quick decisions or lack of display of confidence can be problematic when dealing with people. Particularly, this is usually exploited by Maria for her advantages, and Mercedes should consider herself lucky that Maria does not harbor ill-intentions.

Like many Kuasari people, Mercedes does not use contractions, so her speech pattern can come off as antiquated, like she came from a time warp from one or two centuries ago.

Powers & Abilities
Having being exposed to the cultures of two worlds, Mercedes has developed a strange hybrid style of magic, that combines the traditional Kuasari shamanism with the Old World's style of incantation. This is shown with her using a traditional staff, but with motifs of her Kuasari heritage, such as shrike feathers and beads.

Like her cousin, Mercedes' array of spells are also focused on supporting allies, the only difference being that Mercedes is less effective in direct combat than Joaquina. However, she makes it up with more offensive spells, as she knows a few lightning-based spells taken from Emmanuelle.

Her signature spells are "Shearing Winds" and "Storm Strike", both of which are reliant on the Kuasari charms she uses to bypass incantation. "Shearing Winds" is primarily used to disrupt spell incantations, while "Storm Strike" energizes the weapons of allies with lightning powers.

Mercedes qualifies only for the Caster class of Servant, but she makes for an excellent support type.
