The large bridge-like structure is part of the raised greenbelt known as the EcoGrid that divides urban areas into large hexagonal "cells" which are in turn purposed according to the needs of the population. The EcoGrid is a vital part of Mars's massive air defense artillery network, as well as it's sustainable energy production network, with solar panels or wind turbines being mounted on the sides of the structure. It also serves as land for recreational use, public agricultural production, and military training and staging sites. The EcoGrid has been exported to other planets in the UMD, including Earth.
