Description Another b & w drawing of ol' Lady B.

Umm, by no means was I attempting to make the outfit look remotely like the human version of Davy Jones. I drew this WELL before the spoiler image of human Davy JOnes came out. Freaky, isn't it?

I don't think she looks anything like a human Davy Jones. The embellishments on her outfit are pretty.

It's those embellishments that are much alike the frock coat that human Davy Jones wears. It rather freaked me out. I actually took that style of embellishments off my pirate coat I wore at pirate festivals.

I so want to go to a pirate festival, but there are none close by. The only one I've heard of is more for kids from what I can tell. Now renfests do have pirates and would be the closest thing to one.

Ren Faires have left me rather... wanting. I found them dull and full of absurdity. Though many people like them. I guess re-enactments have spoiled me rotten and made Ren Faires bland, raunchy, and without excitement. Alas it seems that way with Pirate Fests being a fair distance away. Unfortunately. At least the good ones worth attending. Nothing beats firing a flintlock, feeling the shockwave of a cannon, a good sword fight, carousing with friend and foe in a tavern-like setting, encampments, and the such. Hence why Faires left so much to be desired.

You know, the first time I was to a renfest, we watched a pirate comedy show full of ribald jokes and laughed harder than we've laughed in forever! Then last year we went and the events weren't as good, but it was still fun. You can always see a few people walking around in costumes better suited for comic cons though, but any excuse to nerd out...

It's funny because I live in a place that has a coastline and there are no events like you described. Some harbor would be perfect for a replica pirate ship to dock and have the public climb on and mingle with cosplayers, drink, and party. Maybe even a parade with sword fights in the streets. I'd have a ball at something like that.

Tis ok. Yes, most costumes are more appropriate for conventions, but ren faires are overly relaxed unlike historical reenactments.

Oh, most certainly! I'm rather surprised. But then again, if an event doesn't bring in money, most won't attempt such an event. Pity.

this came out really nice. I like her face and the details on the outfit. I think this would be wonderful if colored.

Aye, but I have a very poor program for coloring; it's great for graphics, but poor in coloring.

Cool ^_^ I cant wait to work on mine

and yeah, problem is there isnt much orginality left in the world anymore, there's just so many plot senario's to go around.

Hehehe... tis more fun wearing the outfits than making them. But one feels a great sense of pride wearing the outfit they made.
I want WAY too much and not getting it all in time. And the issue is the items I want are not all that easy to make or get ahold of. Such as now I want a couple new fancy baldrics. After seeing Pintel's baldric - it's MIGHTY fancy - with all it's embroidery and velvet atop the leather... Yeah, I want! Barbossa's is nice, but not as nice as Pintel's!

I wouldn't say no originality... just, great minds think alike.

Do you have a picture of this thing of Pintel's and Barbossa's? cause I dont know what is.

theLadyBarbossa In reply to IrishPirateQueen [2008-03-07 06:33:31 +0000 UTC]

:::nods::: yup, I do.

The baldric is the leather strap over the shoulder and hangs to the side, where the sword is holstered.
But yes, I have pictures of them.

oh! can I see? was it something Pintel wore in the movie, cause I thought his was just plain leather, never gave it much thought

Check your PMs on Davy's Locker forum. Hopefully you get it there.

I'm pondering how to make a fancy baldric now. Pintel's baldric being the inspiration for that.
See... PotC is not all that bad.

Aye, PotC is one of the best Pirate films that's for sure. Brought Piracy back into Pop Culture.

I haven't abandoned Pirate Tales. I've been mighty busy with working on my outfits and other things.
Almost done with the big crimson hat. Can't wait to finish that so I can get onto other projects, like finish up the crimson coat and get crackin' on the Barbossa coat.

Need to get these outfits done in time for this years piracy season!

cool, Gasparilla is really the only 'irate' Celebration that goes on around this area. Though Disney has the Pirate and Princess Party and the Halloween party.

::::le sigh::: I'd LOVE to go to Gasparilla. I've known about it for a while. Get mixed reviews from other pirates though.
Most I know prefer attending Pirates in Paradise down in the Key West. It's getting better now.

I'm mighty tempted to swing down to Walt Disney World again (was there last year but didn't make it to the Magic Kingdom unfortunately). I want to go on the ride SOOOO bad! And I hear Barbossa has been added to the street characters... or even seen pictures of a couple times at least. So, aye.. I'm drooling, desiring, needing to go there. Halloween might be best cause I can wear my piraty costume then with the who lot of ye down there.

I thought he was. So I heard.
There was pictures from the Mickey's Not So Scarey Halloween he was introduced and was in the Disney Christmas Parade with Jack. That was awesome! I didn't care about the rest of the parade, I was happy to see Barbossa!

Welp, maybe I just need to make a trip down there for the Halloween event.

To me it doesnt share that much similarity to davy's human attire but I really really LOVE the hat ^_^

theLadyBarbossa In reply to IrishPirateQueen [2008-03-05 01:52:43 +0000 UTC]

Hahaha... the hat I am actually making. Taking longer than expected to make it. Didn't turn out how I thought but it's turning out still rather awesome looking.
I swear... I will be the epitomy of Jack's reference to buying Barbossa big hat... cause this one IS a BIG hat!

The drawing makes it hard to decipher. The outfit that I am making is based somewhat on this. It is crimson red, with black embroidery and gold trim with brass buttons (I had shipped n from Germany).
Generally the crimson outfit will look like the human version of Davy Jones outfit. Look at the action figure or the painting they did for the film and ironically that's what the outfit will look like. I conjured the look of it BEFORE I even saw the human Davy Jones. Erie as hell.

LOL I understand the whole conjuring something up and then something comes out just like that. In my fic before AWE even thought of comming out I had it in my mind Tia was Calypso and Jessa was her daughter... so yeah... creepy XD, plus I think Disney got ideas' for AWE from a girl I know fanfic she wrote and finished before AWE even had a script so yeah.

:::Shrugs::: Terry says he doesn't read fan fiction or listen to other people's ideas. But he's aware that people often think the same.
Which is true.

But, aye, it'll be odd but interesting to have the crimson outfit. But I look forward to wearing it this year. It's almost done.

The design work on that outfit will resemble most like the Blackwork embroidery on the crimson red velvet pirate outfit I am doing right now.

The actual Barbossa outfit will soon be in the works.
