Happy Birthday Lili.

(actually kind of proud I managed to keep this one a secret)

This is my annual Birthday-picture to our dear friend , who's been there for us through some tough shit through the years, but especially this year. Last time, I made a color version of a happier and more colorful piece (this one [link] ), and a summer picture (this one [link] ) to celebrate, but this year I felt like trying something a bit more moody and sad. So, here's Mayka again.
She's been around the gallery a couple of times now, and there's no seceret I absolutely love this character. Loved her for many years, and probably won't stop since she's so fun to drawn, and keeps evolving as time goes by.
This is actually an origin story painting of Mayka.. and our OC of sort. Much like Lili's Mayka 0.5 piece ([link] ) is a reboot-ish version of the character, this one tries to portray the story of one of her most noteable character traits, the scar on her face.

While not showing you who did it, or where it happened, with this piece I tried to convey the feeling of betrayal and sorrow that she feels right after she got the scar.

While gruesome and bloody, I tried to base this picture on the contrast between the words horror/pain and beautiful ... the beauty that remains although something horrible has happened.
Dunno if I nailed it.. but I hope so : )

This is also a personal piece, a scar can mean a lot to a person, and I've got a nice collection of them myself to remind me who I am and what I do. Same goes for Mayka.
