Silent images of broken hearts
Bearing the sorrows of what must be
Separated by too much time and distance
Souls weep at their lonely destiny
Sad little teardrops adorning faces
The sadness of doing what must be
Quietly remembering times and places
Trying to remember them being happy
While you are distanced from their world
The emptiness pervades your lonely soul
Looking at their beautiful faces in pictures
Trying to maintain tenuous control
Until the day your together again
Holding them close in your arms
Knowing you can’t make up for lost moments
Trying to shelter their tiny hearts from harm
Gazing in wonder at their smiling faces
Lost in the love between father and child
Thanking the good lord for all his graces
Promising never again to let this love be defiled
