Having grown in the little village of West Harbor, Arath has lived well beneath his capacity. Blaming others for being trapped in this "Hamlet of Little Souls" as he names it, time has grown his bitterness into a touch of evil. With his foster fathers distant attitude and Arath's consideration of other villagers' love and affection as pity, which he despises, this touch has grown deeper. Only living he really cares is his beetle, which saved him from big ants when Arath was an infant.
