Only problem is that his limbs seem to lack visible joints. I can see where they bend, but not how they bend.

This is such a beautiful piece. Its so mesmerizing, you get drawn in to the detail, the eyes, the armor, The sword at the Emperors side, all of it is so exquisite. I could spend hours just looking at this picture.

Malcador is just a normal-sized human. The Emperor is so big that even Space Marines are small by comparison.

Does ANYONE have a picture of what Malcador's face looked like?  Best I've ever found had a hood concealing him from the nose up!

Find the Visions of Heresy art/guide book to the Horus Heresy.  Malcador's face is revealed inside.

Had it for years...  that's where most of my Heresy knowledge comes from.

I can never see his upper face without it being heavily engulfed in shadow.

There are two versions, the multi-part art books, and the newer combined book (containing new art).  The newer one is better as it now links with the books.

Using information gathered from multiple sources here is a brief guide to Malcador and the Emperor.

Malcador is described as being very similar in facial appearance to the Emperor, leading to the rumors that he is in someway related to Him.  There is also the fact that he has the same mental powers as the Emperor, but isn't immortal like the Emperor (see below).  Malcador is the founder of the Grey Knights, and the Inquisition.

The Eternal Emperor:
The Emperor is immortal, one of the Eternals,  and has died and been reborn countless times (in a past life he was known as Arthur Pendragon).  He passed his Eternal trait onto Vulkan, who died multiple times and always came back (he survived an unsuited entry into the atmosphere of a planet).  He roams the galaxy still, watching and waiting.
Though the Emperor is Eternal, he made sure to secretly maintain a mortal bloodline.  Watching over his "family", the Emperor knew that one day the last member of the bloodline would play a significant part in his plans.  That member would be Malcador.
Malcador was the Emperor's most trusted confidante,  and perhaps the only person to know his true name.  He inherited the Emperor's psychic abilities, a fact he kept hidden from others.  When the Emperor went to face Horus, Malcador was the only one who could keep the Golden Throne blocking the daemon infested Web way portal shut.  He stepped up, an act that ultimately led to his death since he wasn't Eternal.  He held on until the wounded Emperor was brought back, then crumbled into dust.
When the Emperor ascended to the Golden Throne, he knew the Throne would help heal his injuries.  Unfortunately elements of the Inquisition decided to leave him there, aiding in his transformation into a "God".  This led to a schism with the others who wanted to let the Emperor return to the living world.
This has led to a problem that has arisen as the 41st Millennium draws to a close.  The Throne wasn't meant to continually sustain the Emperor, and is now starting to malfunction.  The Mechanicum do not know how to fix it, as it's secrets are only known to the Emperor.
The Throne is going to shut down, and when it does the Emperor will return, an event that will signal the return of the missing Primarch's  (one, the Lion, is in the Rock), and finally see an end to Chaos.

Phew...I'm now going to have a lie down.

I think I've got the combined book.  Thanks a BUNCH for all the backstory.   That's all I could ever want to know about Malcador, and good news regarding Vulkan.  The Salamanders are my favorite Astartes:  they're not so stuck up as the rest, and remember us little folk.

I have a bit of headcanon on the Emperor:  I like to imagine that he was born on Crete (which caused Mt. Santorini to explode.)  If I'm feeling especially impudent, I call him Cyrus.

Glad to help, but knowing GW the backstory will no doubt change at some point.  Plus I've heard a rumour that 40K is going to have a revamp in the style of Age of Sigmar.

Just purchased Curse of the Wulfen, a new campaign for the Space Wolves.  It features the return of the Thirteenth Company "The Wulfen", and according to the prophecy, the 13th Company's return heralds the return of Leman Russ.

As for the Salamanders, read The Beast Arises series that has just started.  One of the upcoming books in the series sees the Imperium looking for a Primarch so that a major Ork threat can be stopped.  The Primarch's name...Vulkan.  Following sightings of a giant armoured warrior, the search begins in earnest.

I have this theory that the Emperor and Malcador are Cain and Abel of the old testament.

If they were both perpetuals, and Malcador was Cain, then it could be that they later met and reconciled, with Malcador swearing a life-debt to his brother.

It makes for neat storytelling... but Christian theology doesn't quite square with the mythos of the 40K galaxy.  For example, who was the "God" that created man in his own image?  Not the Old Ones: they were reptiles (or possibly amphibians.)  If the Eldar gods were responsible, I suspect the Eldar would have be commanded to treat us... differently than they do.  The C'tan tinkered with humanity's development to create the 'pariah' mutation, but the info in the combined GW material suggests to me that they were simply tacking it onto our existing biology.

Great work.  Question : Since Malcador was the first Grand Master Assassin, how much butt could he kick?

NO-SoupForYou In reply to Private-Funny-Man [2015-11-05 23:04:15 +0000 UTC]

He was Grand Master Assassin?  I didn't think that position existed before the Heresy ended.  And Malcador was literally toasted at the end of that.

Private-Funny-Man In reply to NO-SoupForYou [2015-11-06 21:30:00 +0000 UTC]

I think so. The assassins were originally a group of people who decided to be assassins but not on Emps' payroll but would kill in his name. After they exposed themselves to him, they were on his payroll. I think Malcodor just took over as head afterwards.

He was 3'rd most powerful Human psyker.
