Nice work on the render. ... I bet it must've taken quite a long time to get it the way you wanted. - material settings and all...

anyway, I would like to suggest GI - Global Illumination - it would make the glass look sooooo much more real.
Just a suggestion - I would really like to see it with GI enabled ... but it's still kick ass.

Nice work.

Global Illumination ... is that a setting I'm missing or a plug-in? Sounds intriguing ... and yes, I know something OTHER than the default 3DS renderer goes a lot faster. Haha

Yeah, in your render rollout - if your using 3dsm .... I didnt check, but more than likely it's 3dsm or c4d - you might want to check out gi in google - for tutorials on how to exactly get what your looking for. Basically what it means does is this, it enables the color of a transparent object to illuminate the surrounding areas with it's own color. Almost like a reflection - but with color... you can look more up on it, for a much better description of it and how it exactly works. I know what it does, but I dont know the terminology of how to describe it to someone else.... lol. - I think you should look more into it though - it is just a setting - no plugin is required - that is, unless you want to get a very high quality gi experience... but for preliminary attempts the internal gi settings will suffice for now. I hope I've given you some help on this subject and I wish you the best. Dont be a stranger to my gallery either. Pay it forward.

Ok, I think I know what you're talking about now ... I actually did check it out ... it made my comp crash when I tried to render it. Oh well, I don't even have that crappy computer anymore, and I have to use Bryce 5 ... ugh. But thanks for the tip anyways, I'll be sure to keep it in mind if I ever get another better machine.

I could render it out for you... with gi if you would want to.

I've got a rendering farm here... lol
It would'nt take much time at all.

It's up to you - just let me know.

Shape looks great.

Have you thought about putting it in a dark place with a cloudy background?
Maybe some orange clouds would work.
I had a render take 5 days. Now its an 18 hour time limit.

That is truely amazing. The simple fact that you were able to take a torus knot with such different P:Q values and have it work...to say nothing of the rest of the piece. This is what abstract renders are all about. Extremely well done. And the glass material you used is rocking. Insta-fave.

That is so...so...argh, need a word here...stupendous. There. It's stunning - and dear lord for such a huge amount of time and effort it damn well should be! An utterly bizzare, random but especially beautiful object. I could stare at this for hours. And I'm going to fav it so I can easily do just that.

Gawd I just adore the things you create, I really do.

it looks awesome... but how does that end up taking 38 hours? but i like it check me out sometime and give me some pointers since im new to c4d

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TheMeEC In reply to AdamTogstad [2004-08-06 19:44:42 +0000 UTC]

Well, first of all, theres like 5 different shapes all combined in the central piece with many, many processor-frying modifiers applied to them. Second, it's all glass ... Glass is DEATH on render times. Many of my others have also been glass but none were so geometrically complex on this one. Also, I use 3ds max 5 for my 3d designing ... with I had C4D ... oh well
