Description This vintage electric locomotive appears to have been placed here in 1986 - so I guess all you have to do is go to Harrisburg, PA to see it.

It's good to see 4859 is still solid! Also, she is one of only two surviving GG-1s to not have drop-coupler pilots, the other being the prototype 4800 "Old Rivets".

So this thing has been sitting here since 1986? WOW!!!!! I actually live in Harrisburg, moving from Detroit a few months ago, and i absolutely LOVE trainspotting here.

I would think that would be a good spot. You'll have to take the train to Altoona some day!

Love those old electrics. Have some great vintage pictures of them from the 70s in Don Ball's "America's Railroads: the Second Generation"; the book that influenced me to take pictures of trains!

I am familiar with the work of Don Ball. My favorites, however, are O. Winston Link , who is famous for his night photographs of the Norfolk and Western Railroad in the late 1950s, and Ed Nowak, who was the staff photographer for the New York Central Railroad. I used to be acquainted with Ed Nowak's sons. Sadly, most of Ed's books appear to be out of print. Here's a link to one at a used bookseller: [link]

Link is classic! One of my favorite all time photographs is the NW going past the drive-in movie with the F-86 on the movie screen. Doesn't get much better than that! I'll have to check out Ed Nowak.

Wow, this is one of few GG1 pictures that clearly shows that the paint is indeed Brunswick Green and not black. Nice job.

Yes, it definitely needed a bath. Otherwise from that, however, it appeared to be in very good condition.
