Description It can be hard to post a picture that ends up having so much meaning to me. This is a followup to clavicle in its own way.

I lost 70 pounds, not sure how much more I lost in fat as I’ve gained muscle. It was a long road and I now have my battle scars. Nothing can erase the years of abuse to my body it took to get these. I cannot fight them, for they will always remain. Instead, I need to learn to love them and see them as an accomplishment.

I made only minor adjustments to this picture. I forgot to fix the camera’s ISO off of auto, but I think the semi-grainy affect adds to the feeling.

Thank you very much!

I lost the weight through diet and exercise. I know, that's the normal response, but it worked. I counted calories (going between 1200-1600 a day, never lower) and started a routine at the gym (but walking for half an hour a day or something of the sort is good too). The weight just started to come off at about 10 pounds a month after that.

I really like this, because I too have stretch marks on my stomach, and it helps to know they wont always look so horrible and that I wont always hate them so much

Thank you. I am glad that you like it. I know it can be hard to accept such things because of what society dictates to be "beautiful."

It looks awesome. The scars tell so much.
Did you need surgery to take away access skin or were you able to loose slowly enough for it not to happen in the first?

themisskitty In reply to PinkPanthress [2008-07-23 01:25:59 +0000 UTC]

How it looks in the picture is almost how it looks now. I had no surgery, just left the stretch marks as is.

Be proud of who you are and what you've accomplished. Those are scars of hard work, determination, and sheer bravery.

And besides, guys dig scars anyway.

I think this is my favorite deviation to date. It strikes an emotional chord with me. I got depressed earlier this year and pulled out of school for a semester. The few months I stayed home I rapidly gained about 30lbs... and I was already 30ish lbs overweight from depression. As a result, I now have big red stretchmarks all over my stomach and arms and hips. I'm working on losing weight slowly, but its never easy.

I think you are beautiful, and thank you for sharing this picture with us <3

Thank you so very much. I am glad that it made such an impact with you. It is hard when depression hits and things get out of control. The road to recovery is not easy, but it is a great accomplishment when you finaly get on the right track. I wish you luck with your weight loss.

I think thats beautiful. I admire you for putting this picture up here. You are so very strong for doing what you did. I have battle scars of my own (from surgery from when I was 3 and two from 12 years later....which was just 4 months ago). It's hard sometimes, but that picture truly makes people realize...Beauty is many things...Not just being 5'7, blond haired blue eyed, stick figure.

Thank you very much for your comment. With society so hung up on the "perfect" body, any slight imperfection can and will make people feel worthless. Even though there is so much more to a person than looks, many still base things on the superficial. Hopefully more will be able to see that someday.

Hey you can wear your scars with pride! Wonderful achievement and I'm so happy for you. We may find it silly and hate ourselves for wanting to comply but society does dictate too much about our appearances and bodies. But after all is said and done, I'm happy for this great accomplishment of yours especially if it makes you feel better about yourself, and much healthier. And thanks for sharing. I'm sure it wasn't an easy decision.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

themisskitty In reply to doggj [2005-07-17 23:09:58 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much. I found that I could never conform to how society thinks I should be unless I dropped another 30 pounds (or so...including muscle) and got plastic surgery to erase the damage of being overweight in the first place. Do I want my life to really revolve around appearance?

This was an idea I had floating around in my head for about a week before I took the picture. It wasn't easy to put it up. I almost thought I needed a disclaimer for those that would flame me. Thankfully, I've only received positive feedback from it.

Thanks again!

doggj In reply to themisskitty [2005-07-18 00:01:43 +0000 UTC]

Why should anyone flame you? Not everyone might want to go through that trauma but then again only you know best what feels good for you. I really admire your honesty and will power above all. Keep it up!

Thank you so very much. I'm glad that you liked both pictures. It's hard to keep an upbeat attitude about it, and the description to it is almost like a reassurance for myself. In a society that bases so much off of appearance, it can be difficult to find beauty in things that aren't perfect, especially when it’s yourself..

I see another girl on DA that showed her marks, after losing much weight.
Now your body is very beautiful and those scars don't ruin it, they show how much effort you put in being so beautiful, and that you deserve the admiration that a beautiful girl usually receive.
