We drove around the top of Maui on one of the narrowest windey roads I've ever been on. One lane on a cliff with no turn outs. When we came out on the west side, we noticed this parking lot full of cars so we got out to investigate. It turns out there was a very, very cool blow hole which was blowing sea water 30-40 feet in the air. We naturally had to walk down and check it out closer up. This guy wanted to get real close...I wish I had my bathing suit as it looked pretty fun!Related content

I do but you can't see him because it's so intense. I have some from further back...I'll check to see what else I have.

That looks like a blast. My mother would have never made it up the mountain though. I remember a narrow gauge train ride in the Rockies I took as a child. She spend the whole time 'not' looking out the window.

Somehow, when I look at this, I think of some alien form popping outta the hole and babbling something in an indecipherable language. Or perhaps it's kinda like the liquid-form head from The Abyss.
At any rate, this is a wonderful photo. It's a classic paradigm-busterβkahl commented that he didn't know this kind of thing even existed! It's just not very often that you hear about (much less actually see) something of this nature. It's almost got a sci-fi quality to it! A glimpse into a seemingly alien world!

What a dramatic shot... it looks so treacherous, but the relaxed attitude of the man sitting there says otherwise. A great capture, are there others showing the blast?

I've got some others. I'll post at least one more. It's really fantastic. There is this whoooshing sound as the water comes up the hole then there is sort of a compression pop and out shoots this really high pressure water (about 30-40 feet in the air). And then it sort of blows away. That's what this shot is.

That's incredible! I've never been to the Hawaiian islands, or any tropical island for that matter...so I was not aware that such a thing existed. What an incredible experience that must have been. It's like Old Faithful's COOLER brother.

I knew they existed but had never seen one. It was way cooler than old faithful. For one reason, you could stick your head down it if you wanted...not that you'd want to, but you could get reall, really close...as this guy did. Also it's not steaming hot water! And it blows about every 10 seconds! way COOLer!
