My first completed digital drawing! I decided to leave it a rough sketch. I wanted to do a more stylized paleoart piece and I've been thinking a lot about Dire wolves lately and their portrayal in popular culture. I find it interesting how such a relatively mundane prehistoric mammal has captured the imagination of fantasy world-builders like no other. Not that Canis dirus is undeserving of its popularity mind you. I think the image of a bigger more badass wolf is pretty awesome. The largest Canis lupus are already very big and intimidating (see here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=fXDPac… ) but Dire wolves were even more massive. Imagine you're an early Native American and you run across one of these (or worse, a pack of them) on a cold winter's night. Hope you wore your brown pants.
