I think he just hung out around them and took whatever scraps he could get. Raptors aren't loving parents.

"Raptors aren't loving parents."

I don't mean to interject and I mean no offence but...I'd like to make a point
we don't know that 100% for sure whether raptors were loving parents or if they simply "tolerated" their young.
that part is most speculation at best.

personally I'd lean towards them being at least decent parents
but looking at it from a more objective angle, it could very well be that it varies, as there were MANY species of what we call raptors/dromeosaurids

maybe some raptors were GREAT parents.
maybe even formed what we'd call a "pack" of sorts

maybe other species may have been more solitary.
caring for their young until a certain age, where they'd then drive them out.
(and even then it would still vary as to whether or not the siblings stick together)

I mean you only have to look at how diverse behaviours can be in various members of animal genre to understand what I mean.
it could even be a case where most are one type of social structure but there are still some exceptions.
honestly it all depends on the factors involved with that specific species.

I hope you understand what I mean and that I meant no offence.
I just thought it'd be important to bring up this point.
have a good day

EDIT: if you meant, "these particular raptors aren't loving parents" then please excuse this comment and except my apologies for bringing up a moot point.

I imagine mamma raptor would have enough maternal instinct to protect him from predators.
