Looks like Pogo from the late 40s before he got more soft and rounded.

Very awesome. I swear. Your style can work in so many ways. One day I'll get around to reading pogo possum.

this may sound like a really stupid question... but...
have you ever read "Bone"? it was very much influenced by Pogo. i've never read Pogo, unfortunatly, but looking at this drawing reminded me of Bone. which i have read, obviously.

Hard to believe that he really looked like that in the beginning; he got softer looking and easier on the eye as time went on. Then again, who doesn't? Excellent memory jog.

A little bit disneyfied. But I enjoy them a bit more.
But the whimsical look of the older version has a better feeling.

I only saw the Sunday strips you find in websearchs.
But they are awesome.
And it makes a heck lot of fun to figure out what they are talkin... their jargon is too special to translate correct.

I understand Fantagraphics is compiling a Complete Pogo anthology series, in the same vein as their Complete Peanuts series. It'd be well worth a look once it gets published!

"Pogo" is one of the most influential comic strips of the 20th century. If it wasn't for "Pogo", I don't think we'd have "Calvin and Hobbes" or "Bloom County". It's worth searching for some of the old book collections!
