Theme: Elements, Zodiac, Mythical Creatures

----- The Story -----

For years, four elements collided and clashed. Earth, fire, water and air had been duking it out for thousands of years, with each element being represented by a number of people with certain Zodiac signs. But in the early 1000’s, this practice appeared to cease, as the elements were beginning to work in harmony and saw no need to battle.

However, in the present day, the elements begin to be at odds again. A mysterious foundation known as the Bitter Blood have begun distributing mysterious devices across Japan. These devices, known as Harnesses, unlock the inner doubts of a person and cause it to manifest over their regular body as a monster called a D-Basher. The elemental representatives of the 21st century notice this, and decide an old habit must be restarted.

Four new teams, chosen from residents of the modern world, will rise to combat the threat of Bitter Blood and discover its secrets, but as time goes by, they start to focus less on the main threat and more on each other... will it be the Bitter Blood or the earth that crumble in the end? Only the Elezodi Sentai Signmen will know for sure.

Ranger Descriptions:

Earth Signmen:

Soseki Kuse
Appearance: Sandy brown fluffy medium length hair, chestnut brown eyes. Wears a denim waistcoat over a brown shirt with green pants and black boots.
Bio: A headstrong, dreamy but brave and passionate young man with aspirations to become a singer, he hangs out at the Kimokawa City Concert Hall with his best friend Yusuke and his teammates while he tries to break into singing. At first, he’s reluctant to lead the Earth Signmen, but soon realises what needs to be done to keep everyone safe and bravely leads his friends into battle. He also enjoys teaching Quary about technology and humans, and doesn’t quite know what to make of the other teams at times.

Daisetsu Matsumura
Appearance: Short, messy black hair, dark green eyes. Wears a dark brown zip covered jacket over a long sleeved forest green shirt with black red striped pants and grey sneakers.
Bio: A rock music loving guitarist with possessive bandmates, he’s confident but a little dim, though his strength is something worth shouting about. With his bandmates constantly pressuring him to abandon his friends and join them full time, he doesn’t listen to them, as while he enjoys playing guitar and making music, his friends matter to him just as much. As part of the team, he hits hard and fast and loves going crazy with his shots, though he has to be restrained by Soseki when he goes too crazy.

Ine Usegi
Appearance: Long chocolate brown hair, soft blue eyes. Wears a lemon yellow cardigan over a beige quarter sleeved top, with a heart necklace, brown pants and pink and yellow sneakers.
Bio: A shy and loving girl who’s mother believes is still very young, she prides herself on trying to get all the hard parts of life out the way, leaving only the good bits to enjoy. While she often argues with Wakako and Hikari when she meets them, Ine does treat everyone with respect; even the enemies, which leads to some embarrassing situations for the Earth Signmen. Though her ditzy nature gets on Soseki and Daisetsu’s nerves, she’s still valued as part of the team and her antics sometimes prove vital to defeating D-Bashers. When her own mother is turned into a D-Basher, Ine gains a sense of confidence and using her sweet heart and creative thinking escapes a time loop to rejoin her friends in the real world.

Water Signmen:

Kunisada Kagiyama
Appearance: Short white hair with blue streaks, aqua eyes. Wears a dark blue polo shirt with denim shorts and grey sandals.
Bio: Laid-back, cool but not at all collected, Kunisada is beaten and battered not just physically, but mentally as well. His neighbours and landlord are crazies, and he is just about fed up with it, but when he’s offered the chance to become the leader of the Water Signmen he jumps at the opportunity. As a leader, he’s shaky and unskilled but knows that he has the back of the much more experienced Yunosuke to keep him right.

Yunosuke Kazehaya
Appearance: Spiky charcoal hair, deep green eyes. Wears a battered brown combat jacket over a navy long sleeve shirt with black gloves, dark green pants and deep faded blue boots.
Bio: A former gang member forever annoyed by his ex-girlfriend, Yunosuke is cold and serious, rarely cracking a joke. Despite this, he knows martial arts and often trains Kunisada and Wakako to become better warriors. Often taking his role as a Signman very seriously, he often duels Yasutake and/or Rinkao to hold them off while his teammates fight a D-Basher, as he believes he’s more experienced than either of them who are just starting out.

Wakako Igarashi
Appearance: Shoulder length lavender hair done in twin braids, pale yellow eyes using contacts. Wears a white and blue hoodie over a periwinkle quarter sleeve shirt with baggy white and blue pants and pink sneakers.
Bio: A cheerful but somewhat twisted girl with a shady past involving government projects and arms dealers and manufacturers, she’s totally on board with fighting the threat of Bitter Blood and is trigger-happy, though she moves as gracefully as the wind. Often going overboard to dispatch Packing Peanut D-Bashers and regular D-Bashers, she’s held back by Kunisada, who she feels extremely close to, eventually becoming his girlfriend at the end of the series.

Air Signmen:

Hikari Sone
Appearance: Medium length red hair, green eyes, pale skin. Wears a white vest and a light blue skirt with white sneakers and peach shorts.
Bio: A gentle, somewhat timid but fierce girl from an upper class family but who prefers to live like a lower class woman, she leads the Air Signmen and works as a waitress at the Starlimit Cafe. Constantly having to fight off Kannon trying to make her his girlfriend and invitations from other girls to join clubs, she’s extremely protective of Nikki and Yugoro, and fights rough but forgiving. She loves to catch the wind in her face, and helps Shun find some semblance of joy (and is the one who cries the most when the Air Signmen have to kill Shun when he’s revealed as a sleeper agent).

Nikki Noyamano
Appearance: Short and fluffy black hair, light brown eyes. Wears a lime green shirt with black pants, pastel blue sneakers and a white bracelet.
Bio: A gamer who is constantly looking for things to do to make his life less boring, he makes drinks at the Starlimit Cafe and is the most wisecracking member of the Air Signmen. While he does get overwhelmed by the responsibility of protecting Kimokawa City, he knows his friends have his back. He’s often caught playing his handheld console when he’s supposed to be working by Nao, being shouted at to get back to work.

Yugoro Kuga
Appearance: Shaggy neck length blonde hair, blue eyes. Wears a black and white striped longsleeve top with ripped denim jeans and brown boots.
Bio: A somewhat disinterested and laser-focused on his cafe work young man, he’s often silent but when he does speak, it’s always with some choice words. Cleaning tables at the Starlimit Cafe, he often slaps Nikki when he refuses to stop playing his game to make a customer’s drink and helps Hikari calm down when she gets extremely mad. A team player, he knows he is strong but distributes his strength to help the two weaker members of the team fight.

Fire Signmen:

Tokaji Kinjo
Appearance: Short light red hair, emerald green eyes. Wears a light orange shirt under a red fluffy hoodie with crimson pants, white boots and a red ribbon-esque scarf.
Bio: An eccentric and lazy boy who is constantly told to try harder by his father, he’s the least inclined to lead his team out of all four leaders and has to be motivated by Ryoma and Hayato. Though his laziness makes him seem otherwise, Tokaji doesn’t want to see Kimokawa City die and is surprisingly competent in battle. He also has a fondness for jigsaw puzzles and candy.

Ryoma Yakushimaru
Appearance: Fuzzy black hair, ice blue eyes. Wears a deep red shirt under a black leather jacket with a black choker adorned with a red circle, beige pants and grey boots.
Bio: Flamboyant and carrying no shame about his sexuality, Ryoma is headstrong and caring, determined to destroy the threat before it tears down everything loves. He‘s in love with Hayato, carrying a bitter distaste for homophobia and a love for flavoured water, as well as wearing various colourful outfits inside the Fire Signmen’s house, wearing his normal ‘I’m normal too’ outfit outside.

Hayato Saiki
Appearance: Short blonde hair, orange eyes using contacts. Wears an orange and light brown spotted shirt under a white jacket, with a red and gold ballcap, denim pants, grey fingerless gloves and white and purple sneakers.
Bio: A clingy and lovesick boy, he’s in a relationship with Ryoma and always goes where he goes, referring to Ryoma as his ‘sweetheart’. While the most childish of all the Signmen, he acts like an adult when Bitter Blood’s involved, not content to just destroy the threat and believing that there’s still some good within them, proved when he manages to help Atshushi bring Toti back to the light.

----- Transformation Devices -----

ZodiDrivers: Six square black/respective colour belt buckles with small windows in the middle and a large button on the top, along with two small handles on the sides, these are what the Earth and Water Signmen use to transform. To transform, the buckle needs to be placed on the waist and the button on top pressed while saying the phase “Earth/Water Henshin!”. To summon the Earth Weapons/Water Disks, the handle on the left of the ZodiDriver needs to be pulled and the phase “Weapon Summon!” called out. To summon the SignCreatures, the handle on the right has to be pulled and the phase “SignCreature Arise!” shouted. When transformed, the window on the driver displays the zodiac sign of the respective Ranger against an appropriately coloured background.

ZodiPistols: Six white/respective colour pistols with black triggers and engravings of the signs of each Ranger on them, the Air and Fire Signmen use these to transform. To transform, the pistol has to be pointed in the air, the phase “Air/Fire Henshin!” said and the trigger pulled. The ZodiPistols used by the Air Signmen have extra slots to insert their Sky Bullets for their attacks. To summon the SignCreatures, the phase “SignCreature Arise!” needs to be shouted while holding the trigger, and once the phase has been said the trigger needs to be released.

----- Transformation Sequences -----

For the Earth Signmen, they place their ZodiDrivers on their belts, press the button and yell out “Earth Henshin!”. They are then encased in a layer of rock and mud that flows out from the ZodiDriver, vaguely resembling their Ranger forms, before the earthy layer cracks and breaks off to reveal them in their henshined forms.

Earth Taurus: “To all who stand between us! We will crack you...”
Earth Virgo: “...crush you into the dirt...”
Earth Capricorn: “...and smash you into the ground!”
Earth Taurus: “Taurus!”
Earth Virgo: “Virgo!”
Earth: Capricorn: “Capricorn!”
All: “Elezodi Sentai Signmen! Earth!”

For the Water Signmen, like the Earth ones they place their ZodiDrivers, press the button and shout “Water Henshin!”. They are then washed over by water that erupts from their drivers and splashes over their bodies to form the suits, before a wave chomps down over their heads to form the helmets.

Water Cancer: “Don’t allow the shimmering surface to deceive you! Cancer!”
Water Scorpio: “We will flood evil with our aquatic hearts! Scorpio!”
Water Pisces: “The spring of life will forever run! Pisces!”
All: “Elezodi Sentai Signmen! Water!”

For the Air Signmen, they bring out their ZodiPistols, point them into the air, yell “Air Henshin!” and pull the trigger. Representations of their mythical creatures made of swirling air burst into the sky, while their bodies are enveloped in wind as their suits form, and the constructs in the air fly down onto their heads to form their helmets.

Air Gemini: “The joyful phoenix, Gemini!”
Air Libra: “The wild dragon, Libra!”
Air Aquarius: “The biting wyvern, Aquarius!”
All: “Elezodi Sentai Signmen!”
Air Gemini: “A!”
Air Libra: “I!”
Air Aquarius: “R!”

For the Fire Signmen, they also bring out their ZodiPistols, aim them at the sky, shout “Fire Henshin!” and pull the trigger. Fire spreads from the pistols and down their bodies, making it seem like they’re on fire when actually their suits are being formed. Fireballs they shot from their pistols loop back round onto their heads to form the helmets before the fire dissipates to leave them henshined.

Fire Aries: “We are the burning trio! Fire Aries!”
Fire Leo: “Fire Leo!”
Fire Sagittarius: “Fire Sagittarius!”
All: “Elezodi Sentai Signmen! Fire! Yippee!”

----- Suit appearances for the Signmen -----

Suit: Each set of suits are slightly different, but there are some features you can find on every suit. The main colour is respective of each ranger, but the secondary colour is black for the Earth and Water Signmen and white for the Air and Fire Signmen. The symbols for each ranger are displayed on the chest for Earth and Water and on the belt for Air and Fire, with the belts being black for Earth and Water (with the ZodiDrivers) and white for Air and Fire (with holsters for the ZodiPistols). Both sets of suits have holsters for the Sign Daggers on the belts. The Earth suits are slightly bulkier than the others, with the Water suits having fin like elements jutting out from the gloves and boots, the Air suits being equipped with arm wings and the Fire suits being the closest to typical streamlined bodyfitting spandex sentai suits (with holsters for the Inferno Rods on the back), with crusty stone, wave, gust and flame designs respectively being found on each suit set.

Atshushi Ishikawa: A rogue employee of the Bitter Blood Foundation, he is sworn to secrecy about the inner workings of the organisation and their real purpose but helps the teams by providing information on the appearance of D-Bashers, though he starts to reconsider helping them when they begin to turn on each other.

Earth Signmen:
Quary: The ancient earth warrior who gifted the ZodiDrivers to the Earth Signmen, he’s a dorky and incompetent kind of guy who is unused to modern technology and often causes chaos with his power to cause plants to take on alien and unexpected characteristics. His familiar form is that of a floating watery horned serpent.
Munemori Esumi: Kunisada’s landlord, he’s a notorious peeper and likes to spy on his tenant to make sure he doesn’t ruin his land, much to the frustration of Kunisada and the rest of the Water Signmen.
Kamie Nakano: The annoying ex-girlfriend of Yunosuke, she’s always trying to get a hold of him and ask him why he never came back, often enacting crazy schemes to try and capture him or at least cripple him.
Takuboku Muraoka: An arms dealer who supplies weapons to those previously attacked by Bitter Blood so they can defend themselves if they are ever attacked again, Wakako’s parents have a history of funding weapon dealers like him and thus she finds herself questioning if it’s even legit to speak to him or let him help in the war against Bitter Blood.

Air Signmen:
Aeris: The air warrior who gives the Air Signmen their ZodiPistols, she’s a gentle soul who wouldn’t dream of hurting another, which annoys the team to a certain point but they’re always likely to turn to her for advice. Shun Isobe: A young man who lost the majority of his memories after being captured by Bitter Blood and lives in the apartment above the cafe, all he can remember is that he was simply thrown aside for being unworthy. Fire Signmen:
Lavis: The ancient fire warrior who gave the ZodiPistols to the Fire Signmen, he’s bossy but surprisingly cheerful and has the ability to create animals out of fire, though they don’t tend to last very long. His familiar form is a fiery sprite.

They soon find out when Shun is zapped by the Plug D-Basher, the thin metal layer below his skin being revealed after his arm was burnt, with his true form appearing to be some kind of meshy android.
