Description Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them:

And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.

Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

Then the devil leaveth him, and behold, angels came and ministered unto him. ~ Matthew 4:8-11, KJV

A drawing that right now is very close to my heart, to say nothing of the fact that I think this is one of my best so far.

Drawing this picture helped me through a rough time...You know, Jesus could have said "screw crucifixion" and went off and conquered the world and made people serve him by force, rather than redeeming it. Hell it would have been a lot easier. But He didn't, and went through all that, just for us. And that's pretty cool.

I guess the moral I learned here is Never Stop Loving.

Sorry for the sermon, then again I am a PK.

18x24 bristol with ink. Sorry for the quality.

Tempting someone with power when they're second in command to the entire universe...kind of a stupid plan Lucy. Unless of course you believe that Satan is still working with Yahweh by playing the bad guy, and then it becomes genius

it's tough being both God and Man, because the Man part allows for things like this to happen. Really clean and simple work!

Though KJV, that's generally sound. Still... get the New Jerusalem Edition, just for reference purposes...

the expression really makes you realize that Jesus was a regular guy...and shows him in one of his weakest moments...also the composition is great

It reminds me of going to church when I was little and at the top of the front of the church there was a stained glass window of Jesus praying at a stone on a hilltop among dark clouds, I always thought it was very lonely and sad. And I cried when I read the part about how he changed his mind before they went ahead. But it was too late.

I know we need to know about sad stories as well as happy ones, but I don't think most people pay attention to the parts they don't like.

"He changed his mind"? When?

In the version I read ( this makes a difference ) just before they crucified him, he asked god to please not make him do this, to save him. But he had to go through with it, god delayed a bit or whatever, and got around to taking him home when he raised him after he died.

Gee. Riff off of "Father, why has thou forsaken me", eh?

What version was this, may I ask?

I don't know, I must have read it almost 20 years ago, add in memory loss, and general forgetfulness and who knows how I may have warped the view... so I spent a little time looking it up in the online version at [link] ublic&art=26&division=div1
and I think the part where he's gone sorrowful and wants to "let this cup pass", but will do it anway is where I'm thinking of.

The main point of the whole comment thing I started out with, is that I always thought that window was very sad and lonely, and I get the same idea from your picture. That he's going if only *I* weren't the good one. And in real life, the good ones often die.

Jesus is God. He never changed his mind about anything. When he was praying in the Garden of Gethsemanie, he said, "O my father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless, not as I will, but as thou wilt." Matthew 26:39

Jesus was fully divine, and fully human. He always knew what would happen, and he understood everything about the reasons why, but in his human nature he still did not wish to suffer anguish. You have to remember also, that it wasn't merely the physical pain that he went through; he suffered being utterly cut off from God, in a very real sense from Himself, and having the totality of the wrath of God the Father against all sin and lawlessness poured out over him. He is saying in his prayer that if there is any other way for God's plan of salvation to be accomplished without his having to be made the full and single object of God's eternal wrath against Sin, he asks that the cross be taken away, but he says very earnestly and very obediently and humbly, "Nevertheless, not as I will, but as thou wilt."

The glory of the Gospel is that the Holy, Just, Sovereign, Majestic, Almighty, Omniscient God and creator of everything sent his only begotten Son to take on humanity, and being utterly sinless, to be made sin and pay the penalty for anyone who believes in him. And that Son, being fully God himself, who could with a single word move mountains, and shake the foundations of the earth, willingly and obediently out of love, grace and compassion for us, suffered the wrath of God as a perfect sacrifice to redeem us from slavery to sin, and then rose again from the dead and in so doing conquered death forever. Hallelujah, how great is our God.

I happened to be searching for pictures of Jesus, mostly on a whim. It's been interesting. Anyway, I hope you don't take it as a flame, as it wasn't meant that way.
Hopefully it will be useful to you

Eep.. it didn't like that link [link] looking somewhere in the 26th part of Matthew ... er.. late 30's early 40's numbers. I'm not good at any of the notation.

Ah yes, that part. It's not really that He changed His mind, 'cause He knew it was coming the whole time. I mean, quite honestly crucifixion is something nobody would want to go through, even God.

But it had to be done.

Had me worried for a second there--at first I thought you meant something like The Last Temptation of Jesus Christ by Martin Scorsese or something like that

o_O? I don't know what that is... a movie? I generally try to avoid bible stories since I almost died of boredom reading the thing. It's so extremely repetative. My dad told me that before I read it, but I was young and you know how that goes. It's actually pretty rare for me to bring up churchy subjects now.

thenumber42 In reply to gusdefrog [2006-07-13 06:37:31 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, it's a movie. It caused quite a stir back in the 80's, 'cause in the crucifixion scene Jesus dreams about marrying Mary Magdalene. Personally I think "The DaVinci Code" was a riff off of that

In any case, this conversation has inspired me to draw yet another picture. And I have you to thank

It's probably wrong that the sheer idea of Jesus thinking about world conquest made me giggle a bit, especially when combined with an "OH NOES!" facial expression. D:

Your inking is so pretty, though. *jealous*

But this is a nice piece. I like the expression a lot. Jesus ftw.

I just tried to make Him look like a normal Dude.

Note, also, that He is not blonde. He still looks sort of caucasian though.
