Description The Authority-class destroyers were a class of destroyers commissioned in 1938 as a result of the Admiralty's dissatisfaction with the performance of the previous leading destroyer-classes serving in the frontline. They were designed around the Royal Munitions enormously-powerful, high-temperature, high-pressure impulse steam turbines, making them the fastest destroyers of the time period. The Admiralty commissioned 31 Authority-class destroyers between 1939 and 1944 and the design was generally regarded as highly successful despite its one major drawback; its main armament.

The Authority-class was unique in that it was the only class of Elipian ship equipped with Bradley-Lewis Type 38 Torpedo which proved to be a double-edged sword. The Bradley-Lewis Type 38 Torpedo was a 26 inch diameter torpedo intended for use on surface ships for the Royal Navy. It is one of, if not the most advanced torpedo type in service at the time. it was nicknamed the infamous Reaper's Lance after its volatile properties due to its unique propulsion system.

At the time, most torpedoes used compressed air to propel their warhead which only contained 21% oxygen. As how much fuel a torpedo can burn is limited by how much oxygen it could carry, Type 38 torpedoes used compressed pure oxygen as its propellant. This gave it unmatched performance and stealth compared to other contemporary torpedoes, however it had one major drawback; the oxygen system poses a serious danger any ship carrying it when under attack as they could be detonated and cause severe damage to if not outright sink to its host should it be struck.

Being lightly armored, several Authority-classes have been lost due to mishandling of the torpedoes or having their compression systems struck, on occasions damaging or sinking nearby allied ships, leading to their relative isolation in the newly drafted fleet formations.
